Some very important testing took place yesterday ahead of next week's Mitre 10 MEGA Wanganui Tough Kid / Tough Teen events - can you guess what it was?👀

If you are planning to come along and support your tamariki next week, here are some things to think about:

⏱ The schedule for both days is available on our website here: https://sportwhanganui.co.nz/mitre-10-mega-whanganui-tough-kid-tough-teen-quiet-hour-race-schedules/

☀ We'll have free sunscreen stations around the course thanks to the Cancer Society Whanganui-Rangitikei-Waimarino, but it’s a good idea to bring your own as well as a hat, drink bottle and snacks.

😀 Registrations are still open for the Quiet Hour, from 9.30am on Thursday 30 November. If your tamariki has a physical disability or sensory needs, or would just prefer to have a go at the course in a more relaxed environment, Quiet Hour is a chance for kids to take part in their own time. A support person must accompany them around the course. Registration is required so we can manage numbers, please email Sarah Craig at [email protected] to book a spot.

Here's the new ticket booth being moved into place at the St Hill Street entrance to Cooks Gardens - the end point of a fantastic collaboration between UCOL | Te Pūkenga and the council's Venues & Events team! 🙌 It was hard to choose from the designs UCOL's architectural technology students presented - congratulations to Eifion Paul whose design we selected. 📐✏️ A huge thanks to everyone who worked to make this a reality, especially UCOL's Level 3 Carpentry students who constructed the booth, UCOL senior lecturer of architectural technology and construction, Marshell Putu, and UCOL’s academic portfolio manager construction, David Freebairn. 🔨 You can read more here: https://www.whanganui.govt.nz/Your-Council/News-Events/News/New-booth-is-just-the-ticket

The ✨Due Drop Hope Challenge✨ sponsored by Due Drop Foundation, is a triathlon running over 16 days, starting in Cape Reinga and finishing at Parliament

Support the runners at Cooks Gardens, as they run 1500m, followed by a meet and greet centered around mental health, at the Barracks Sports Club this Saturday!🏃‍♂️

The aim is to raise awareness about the struggles young people face accessing counselling, and to highlight to smaller communities that there IS support out there via the Gumboot Friday counselling platform.
