A little bit about us......
The Whanganui War Memorial Centre is a wonderful multi-purpose venue nestled in the very heart of the Whanganui CBD. Its versatility allows it to cater for small groups from 10 through to 1300 people with 3 function rooms and free parking for 70 cars. Both foyers benefit from natural light, filtered through beautifully designed stained glass windows. Easy access to all areas of the Centre is provided by the front stairs, lift and rear serviceways, and a host of extras including free WIFI, sound systems, specialist lighting and much more are provided.
Constructed between 1955 & 1960 as a living memorial to the 375 men and women from Whanganui who lost their lives in the Second World War . The Centre opened in 1960, free of debt thanks to the support of the local community through fundraising and donations, is among the top 1000 architectural 'modernistic' buildings in the world and the top 50 in the southern hemisphere. It is both beautiful and practical.
The War Memorial Centre is one of the Venues run by Whanganui Venues and Events who also look after the Whanganui Royal Opera House and Cooks Gardens Event Centre.
