Many thanks to all those that donated plants, produce or helped out on the day. You know who you are 🙃 And thank you to Fonterra for donation of the flavoured milk cartoons for the kids.

SEEKING LOCAL BUILDER

As part of our kitchen refit project we want to strip back the kitchen wall where the sink is, insulate and re-gib.

We will need to apply for funding to complete the job, so the work may only go ahead early next year. But we are keen to find a local builder (not a big corporate builder) to do this little job as part of this bigger project.

If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Claire Gifford on 021 0426437 or email [email protected] to arrange a time to come and view the kitchen.

We are also keen to have someone help take on Caretaker duties, so if you are interested please come along. This role can be shared and you will be supported by other Committee members.

SPONSOR APPRECIATION - WHANGAREI DISTRICT COUNCIL & CROFT POLES & TIMBER

How great does the new fencing and carpark area by the Hall look? And have you seen that volunteers, Dave Garrick and Aubrey Gifford, are busy constructing a new bus shelter as well next to the Hall. This will be a great addition for school kids waiting for bus in the mornings, but can also be used as a shelter for BBQs etc for hall users.

These improvements have been possible thanks to a generous grant from the Whangarei District Council last year of $9,982 and in-kind support from Croft Poles & Timber for materials.

Thanks also to NorthEnd Contractors who did the big job of removing the two old tree stumps, Mark Thorne from MBT Contracting who did the fencing job, and Noel Moffatt for donating funds for new metal and spreading it.

If your community organisation wishes to apply for a grant from WDC go to: www.wdc.govt.nz/funding to find out more.

QUIZ NIGHT FUN

A big thank you from the Kaurihohore Hall Committee to all those wonderful personalities that made up our 13 Quiz teams last night.

You all helped to make the night a successful community event. A big thank you to Warrick Harkness - Ray White Real Estate for sponsoring the event, which meant we were able to raise an impressive $1,560. This will go towards saving for a kitchen refit we are planning.

Congratulations to Quizzy Rascals, Kitty Kats and Smooth Operators for winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

A big shout out to Claire Gifford for being the driving force behind the night - from proposing the idea in the first place, to finding sponsors for all the prizes, to handling the bookings, and helping to set up the hall on the day. You are a superstar. 🌟

Other thanks go to Bronwyn and Steve for braving the weather and helping with parking; to Cassie for assisting Warrick with marking and to Judith and Christine for their general all round willingness to support where needed.

And a final thanks to MC Tommo for providing a great quiz 👍 and to all the other sponsors of the spot prizes 👍 Croft Poles & Timber Event Cinemas BockyBoo.NZ Milk and Honey Kamo Bin Inn Kamo Liquorland David's Pharmacy little foodie Amici Italian Restaurant Whangarei Mitre 10 MEGA Whangarei Z Energy Split Bar & Restaurant Grimmer Contracting Refuel Cafe

SPONSOR APPRECIATION - CROFT POLES AND TIMBER

We want to acknowledge the generosity of local business, Croft Poles & Timber, who donated all the timber for our recent fencing upgrade and towards a soon to be completed bus shelter.

They also came to the party, together with one of our awesome Committee members, Noel Moffat, to donate funds towards some metal to fill in the potholes in our parking area.

Thank you Noel and Crofts!

UPDATE FROM HALL COMMITTEE - JULY 2024

Hello to all of our Facebook followers. It's been quite a while between posts! We lost access to the account for a while which explains the silence.

We will endeavour to be more active in posting about upcoming events at the hall.

The next two are:

QUIZ NIGHT, Fri 2 August 7pm - now SOLD OUT (although one team has 3 spots to fill - so get in touch if you want to grab one of those, $20pp). All proceeds go towards fundraising for a kitchen refit

AGM, Tue 20 August 7pm - at our Annual General Meeting we will review the past year, consider priorities for the year ahead and look to appoint Officers and confirm annual subscriptions for members.

We are on the hunt for a new Chairperson with Geoff Crawford having resigned in May after serving as our Chair for the past two years. But nominations for any of the roles are welcome (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Officer) - send nominations by 19 August. We meet four times a year and our main role is to look after the ongoing maintenance of the hall and its financial sustainability so that it remains an attractive and useful community amenity. It does not take up a lot of time and is a rewarding way to give back to the community.

NEW WEBSITE

We are in the process of creating a new website to document stories about the local history of Kaurihohore. If you wish to contribute a story about your family's ties to Kaurihohore please see the contact form on the website. The website has a page for the Hall as well.
