Bright colorful rooms with big comfy chairs. Junk in wheat fields. Parts of small towns where no one understands its beauty. A smile. A kiss. Big earrings. The love of my life. Watching other people marry theirs.

You know when you meet someone and you instantly want to be in their orbit?

That was Alyssa. From our first call it was easy to tell how infectious her joy and personality is. She described Trent as more reserved than her but full of endless humor and knowledge. The perfect balance for them both.

They brought that balance into their wedding plans. Style and sophistication without fluff and fussiness. Plenty of time for friends and family and the enjoyment of bringing both of their worlds together (these two have rocked the long distance game for a while).

Sharing their love of art and music and celebrating their own way ~ including a special wrap up to the day (that one is getting its own post so stay tuned).

Pro trip: check what time sunset is on the day of your wedding and add that to your timeline.

You really don’t need more than 10-15 minutes of time to capture some truly beautiful sunset photos.

You can sneak out during golden hour for that glorious warm light, right at sunset when the colors are going to be the richest, or right after the sun has set and you can get that beautiful transition to blue hour.

I like to keep my eyes on what’s happening (is the couple still eating dinner? are there formalities about to start? would skipping out for pictures interrupt the flow if the evening?) and what’s happening in the sky (is it too cloudy for sunset? are we likely to get good colors? what’s the position of the sun in relationship to an easy to access spot for photos?) and then attempt to time our skip away as sneakily as possible.

As much as I love a great sunset I never want taking extra photos to interrupt your flow of the day.

Can you spot the difference?

I had so much fun with Page and Jesse exploring not just a new location but playing around with some 35 mm film as well. It’s something I’ve been playing around with on my own but this was the first time in a very long time I’ve used it during a “real” session. I might have to make it a more regular habit.

Today marks 4 years of getting to be a part of my favorite event of the year! Sharing a few favorites from past years.

Thundergong kicks off tonight with an amazing crew, all in support of and their mission to help provide prosthetic limbs for amputees without insurance coverage. So far Steps of Faith has helped over 1200 individuals receive the care they need and tonight we have a chance to help them raise money to continue their mission and benefit event more.
