Plucked from the 72,000 line Maranao Epic “Darangen”, an amalgamation of customs, social values and cultural notions of beauty of the Maranao people that is now recognized as a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage —features one of its central figures, Princess Lawanen of Bamberan. Draped in golden accents that hint of Islam and Christianity’s eventual co-existence on the Island of Mindanao and abound with the ingenuity of Maranao artisans with each weaved thread and stitched bead, this piece likewise affirms that Spirituality is at the core of her being, whereas her loyalty to kin and friends alike is second to none. She is definitely a beauty beyond compare with an egalitarian flair— Princess Lawanen.
