Terra Nostra was born out of Robert and Odette Andayaโs dream to create a space for art and artists to thrive in Butuan City, and Caraga Region.
As a couple, Robert and Odette both shared a deep love and appreciation for the arts. Robert was out shooting with a film camera in 80s, and Odette was singing and dancing on stage for most of her childhood and high school years.
Together they raised three daughters in Butuan City - Angela, Isabel, and Ela. As their children were growing up, Robert and Odette encountered many frustrations when it came to the arts.
During milestones of his family, Robert would always be bothered by lack of quality and artistry in the photo and video output available in Butuan at the time. He decided to take matters into his own hands when his daughter Isabel won a kidโs pageant in 2007 and he had no decent photographs. It was then that Robert decided to embrace digital photography, to capture precious moments from behind his camera lens.
For Odette growing up in Bacolod City, performing arts were what gave life and color to her childhood. After moving to Butuan, she found that the city lacked a space for artists to share their craft, and for children to learn. So every summer she sent her daughters to Bacolod and enrolled them in different workshops, all the while wondering of when these opportunities would be available in Butuan.
The Beginning of a New Dream
As the years went by, Robert became more immersed in photography - honing his craft through workshops and conferences around the Philippines and abroad. Odette pursued her love for dance and fitness, and went on to become an internationally licensed Zumba Instructor.
It was then when the couple started to dream of creating a Photography and Dance Studio to share these passions and skills with others, and create a space for art and locally grown artists to thrive.
