“The League of Organic Agriculture Municipalities, Cities and Provinces of the Philippines (LOAMCP-PH) issues this statement in support of Mayor Rommel C. Arnado of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.

Mayor Arnado is the National President of LOAMCP-PH and is our representative in the National Organic Agriculture Board in the Department of Agriculture. He has successfully taken on the challenge of food security and peace in his town by bringing down poverty incidence from 80% to 9% through organic agriculture.

His peacebuilding and sustainable development efforts through the “From Arms to Farms Program” has been replicated and recognized by global SDGs, food and agriculture advocates in many countries. This is the same program that has brought honor to our country by winning the 2024 Future Policy Award in Switzerland and the 2016 Peace Prize Award in Colombia.

Mayor Arnado has always led LOAMCP-PH by example and he is a known advocate of good governance who practices what he preaches.

We find the suspension order against Mayor Rommel Arnado highly irregular and its cause unclear as he was only performing his ministerial duty. We call on the DILG to ensure a fair and transparent investigation that is free from political interest.”

Ipinapahayag ng Mayors for Good Governance ang buong suporta para sa isang makatarungan at bukas na pagdinig sa suspensyon ng isa sa aming convenor na si Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte Mayor Rommel Arnado.

Nanawagan kami para sa masusing imbestigasyon at malinis na proseso sa pagkamit ng katotohanan kaugnay ng 90-day suspension ni Mayor Arnado.

Bilang isang samahan na isinusulong ang mabuting pamamahala at paglaban sa katiwalian, palagi namin pinapahalagahan ang transparency, accountability, at rule of law.

Umaasa kami na magiging patas ang imbestigasyon at sa huli, ang tama at mabuti ang mananaig. Patuloy tayong titindig para labanan ang mali, at isusulong ang ikabubuti para sa mga Pilipino.

Ito ay paalala na multi-awarded ang Kauswagan. Totoo at lehitimo ang mga parangal na ibinigay ng iba’t ibang organisasyon at award-giving bodies sa Pilipinas at ibang bansa.

Sa taong 2024, nakatanggap ang Kauswagan ng mahigit 20 awards sa Manila at Europa. Ito ang resulta ng maayos na pamamalakad at magandang pagpapatakbo ng lokal na pamahalaan. Dagdag dito, na reclassify ang Kauswagan mula sa pagiging 5th class municipality patungo sa pagiging 1st class municipality simula ngayong 2025.

Alagaan natin ang ating bayan at maging proud tayo sa mga pagbabagong naganap dito.

OPINION - The drama continues in Kauswagan. And the big question is, how did this come to be? Looks like the motives are questionable as far as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is concerned. The mayor and Sangguniang Bayan were suspended for suspending barangay officials who disadvantaged people in their own barangay.

By the way, the SP also suspended mayors and vice mayors in different municipalities. Is this purging? Is someone unleashing some dragon power? And for what reason? This might be a fireworks display of might and an attempt to show who’s more powerful and in control. A ravishing political power play. In the meantime, this province is poor.

Is this what the people need? This political exercise is a complete deterrence to people’s aspirations for progress. This does not make Filipinos live a more comfortable life.
