This piece is my first black furisode gifted by a friend. It is nice to see it again after being worn only once.

Again, the furisode is characterized by its long sleeves and it is the most formal kimono worn only by young girls and single ladies. It is usually worn for Seijin no Hi every January as ladies who turn 20 for the current year flock to the shrine to celebrate their coming of age. Boys, on the other hand, may choose to wear a suit and tie or a formal kimono for this event.

We were hired to do furisode kitsuke and nihongami earlier for a debutante with a Japanese-themed party held in Bacoor, Cavite. Needless to say, we enjoyed the entire process and the company of everyone present.

Anyway, here was a cosplay I did last year at Pre-Tanabata in Ayala Malls Manila Bay. Wearing a full furisode set with a wig on is a legit death sentence, but if it's two of the hobbies I love the most, I sacrifice for love 😂

The best entry for the black kitsuke series. Traditionally worn by the mother of the bride as well as the groom, they are of the highest formality for a married woman.
Tomesode, in general, are characterized by the lack of design on the top part of the kimono but therefore having a very lavish design on the bottom, often including gold dust and gold thread (couching) and embroidery. The design is often made up of lucky and/or auspicious plants, flowers, animals and objects.

A large, varied, and usually informal style of kimono. It is characterized by an all-over, repeating pattern that can flow in any direction or follow any theme.

This is one of the more-recent additions to my collection. An antique black komon paired with a chuuya fukuro obi, faux shibori obiage and a flat burnt orange obijime with a wooden lacquered obidome.

It has come to our attention that some people who rent/purchase kimono from other shops are getting "scammed" as they were only given undergarments passed off as kimono, or they were deliberately sold pieces that were said to be appropriate to an event even if it is a far cry from its original purpose (for example: a nemaki (sleepwear) for a wedding, or a semi-formal kimono set for bon odori--).

While we know that kimono rentals may be pricey for some, we offer free advice to everyone. Even if you do not end up buying or renting from us, our inbox is open should you have questions regarding the authenticity or accuracy of a kimono you are planning to rent or buy from another shop. We do not run this page for the sole purpose of closing sales, rather, our main goal is to educate and share the intricacies of kimono with everyone so we can all wear the garment with pride.

It's sad how some sellers who claim they appreciate the culture allow their clients appropriate the same culture by letting them wear sleepwear/undergarments/mismatched kimono formality to an event just for the sake of generating income. As an enthusiast, this behavior is unacceptable.

We are reposting this to answer the questions "pwede po bang pa-ship na lang ng kimono at kami na po ang magsosoot?" and "pano po pag kimono lang ire-rent, hindi full set?"

Please remember that this is not your typical bathrobe. In order to not appropriate the culture and mishandle these garments, we are offering dressing services for every rental. While what one sees in a properly-worn set is the kimono and the obi, a lot of other hidden aspects are holding the entire piece together.

As an enthusiast, I have spent more than a decade learning the artistic intricacies of kimono and kitsuke. We cannot let our clients wrestle with a kimono set when we know we can offer our help.
