KOLOT CHAMPY: A FUSION OF IFUGAO TRADITION AND THE CHRISTIAN WAY
Kolot is an Ifugao prestige rite of passage where a male child receives his first haircut to symbolize his transitioning to manhood. It is an age old tradition practiced widely by Ifugao tribes before. With the introduction of Christianity, kolot has now become a fusion of the old and new - traditional and Christian celebration.
Thus, the rite was celebrated both by an Ifugao elder and Christian ministers whose blessings poured for seven year old Champy, the main cast of the kolot, as witnessed by at least 200 invited family and friends from various parts of the country.
The weather was great that day. Previous days were marred by inclement weather with moderate to heavy rains but the gods favored such day for Champy to enjoy his special day with his loved ones.
Memories were created that day. Guests from outside the province were in awe of the rich Ifugao culture and tradition many of which are still practiced up to this very day. We, Ifugaos, on the other hand are as proud as our ancestors who passed on the rich and vibrant heritage to us, the present generation.
Personally, Nandong Events expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Orville and Ivy, Champy's proud parents, for allowing us to be part of the celebration. We value the trust you gave us as the event stylist for Champy's kolot.
