From Reel to Real: Crissa Liaging and Shaun Pelayo’s Siquijor Love Story
Joyce Medina Parker, the visionary behind Siquijor Summit Events (SSE), had a dream: to showcase the island of Siquijor as the ultimate wedding destination. One fateful afternoon during an ocular visit to Aquamare, she crossed paths with Shaun Pelayo, a well-known content creator. Their brief conversation revealed a shared passion for highlighting the beauty of Siquijor. This serendipitous meeting sparked an idea, and Joyce turned to her mentor, the creative genius Steven N. Sasam, for guidance.
Sir Steve proposed a bold concept: a destination wedding scene to showcase the island's magic. The search for Shaun’s perfect “bride” began in August, but chemistry was elusive with the models considered. That is, until Joyce stumbled upon a vlog featuring Shaun and Crissa Liaging, known as Life of Habibi, when she was stranded in Siquijor. Their natural chemistry was undeniable, and an idea was born: Crissa would be Shaun’s “bride.”
With no shared connections to Crissa, Joyce took a leap of faith and messaged her directly. To her surprise, Crissa replied, though her initial response—“Nasa church ako, te. Can I call or text back?”—was unexpected. After some coordination, Crissa agreed to join the project, and Shaun was equally on board.
However, there was one challenge: Siquijor Summit Resort and Events was new, with a limited budget. Enter Sir Steve and his incredible network. Renowned photographer Joseph Ong, celebrated designer Hanz Coquilla, and the talented Marvin Anticamara and his Budots Media PH team all rallied behind the project, generously donating their time and expertise. Coordinators and stylists dropped everything to make this dream a reality.
What began as a conceptual shoot soon captivated thousands, earning SSE over 26,000 followers and sparking intrigue about whether the love story was reel or real.
