Why is Valentine's Day celebrated?

The origins of Valentine’s Day are murky. But it is thought to have been made a holiday in the fifth century when Pope Gelasius outlawed the celebration of Lupercalia. It wasn’t until much later that it became associated with romance. In the Middle Ages, it was believed that February 14 was the start of birds’ mating season. Chaucer cemented the connection between Valentine’s Day, birds and romance with his 1375 poem “Parliament of Foules,” writing, “For this was on Seynt Valentynes day, / Whan every foul cometh ther to chese his make.” The rest, as they say, is history!

Monobloc chairs are plastic chairs made from a single injection mold of polypropylene, which is why they're called "monobloc" (single block). They were designed by French engineer Henry Massonnet in 1972. The original chair was named "Fauteuil 300."

The process of making these chairs involves heating the plastic to 220 °C (428 °F) and then injecting it into a mold. The chair is then cooled and ejected from the mold.

Monobloc chairs are extremely affordable to produce, making them widely accessible and one of the most popular plastic chairs globally.

The genealogy of chairs could be trace back to the Fauteuil 300 by French designer Henry Massonnet in 1972. It was only in 1983that we come to see the universally recognized chair we know now as monobloc. The Resin Garden Chair was launched which paved way to the production of a series at such a low cost and a very affordable price. It is also lightweight, stackable, comfortable and weather proof.

The first Monobloc was made in 1946 by the Canadian designer D.C. Simpson. At the time, however, the modeling process wasn’t suitable for mass production, and the concept was perhaps a bit ahead of its time... But by the 1960s, designers had warmed up to the idea of modeling chairs in a single plastic block.

The chair’s inventor apparently lived at least five thousand years ago since the earliest chairs that archeologists have discovered date back to ancient Egypt and the time of the pharaohs. These were made for just occasional sitting by high ranking officials, strictly for ceremonial purposes.

Chairs became common in the 1500s and comfort was always an issue. Back then, wood component manufacturers were concerned with durability and portability. Short shrift was given to a person’s f***y.

Even in medieval castles, pads made out of colorful fabrics were put on hard wood chairs to make sitting easier. The pads in poorer homes used material made of coarser material, filled with straw.

This is the same period that William Shakespeare was writing his masterpieces. Clearly he liked his comforts. In just one of his plays, “Henry VI, Part III,” he refers to chairs eight times.

Designed by Yves Saint Laurent, “Dragon Chair” has been sold for a whopping $38 million in 2009. Though he owned the chair, Eileen Gray was the creative mind behind it. Saint Laurent was the first living person to be honoured by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1983. However, one of the most interesting furniture fun facts is that he bought the chair at a lower price decades later.
