Magdiwang's Green Champion:

Mayor Tansiongco Honored for Outstanding Eco-Engagement

Today, at the impactful Environmental Summit held at Park Inn by Radisson North Edsa, Quezon City, the Municipality of Magdiwang, Romblon, stood out as a shining example of community-driven environmental stewardship.

The MENRO Office, under the visionary leadership of Mayor Arthur Rey Tansiongco, was awarded the prestigious Outstanding Best Practices in Community Eco-Engagement for its innovative and community-driven strategies to address the growing challenge of plastic waste. Magdiwang's success in minimizing the impact of plastic waste and transforming it into a valuable resource has made it a model for other communities.

The Environmental Summit, attended by top Regional EMB Officials and DENR Executives, including RED Felix Mirasol Jr. and a representative of DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, served as a platform to celebrate Magdiwang's remarkable achievements and underscore the importance of collaborative efforts in environmental protection.

In a heartwarming display of dedication, DOH DTTB Doctor Jonathan Maglaya, who was attending a DOH training, was asked to represent the Municipality and accept the award. This unexpected honor highlights the deep commitment to sustainability that permeates all levels of Magdiwang's government, extending even beyond the confines of the MENRO Office.

This award is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the entire community, working hand-in-hand with the MENRO Office to create a greener, more sustainable future. Mayor Tansiongco's dedication to sustainability and his ability to engage the entire community in eco-friendly initiatives have made Magdiwang a model for responsible environmental stewardship. Bantigue-Dulangan Road Widening Project: Construction Underway After Successful Negotiations!

We are pleased to announce a major milestone in the Bantigue-Dulangan Road Widening Project, a key initiative under the visionary leadership of Mayor Art. This project is a collaborative effort of the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) and the Engineering Department, working together to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for our community.

Mayor Arts' Commitment to Infrastructure Development:

Mayor Art has consistently prioritized infrastructure development as a cornerstone of his administration, recognizing its crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents and fostering economic growth. The Bantigue-Dulangan Road Widening Project is a testament to this commitment, reflecting a strategic investment in the municipality's future.

Initial Survey and Project Planning:

Following the initial survey conducted by the MPDO, together with the Engineering Department, the project has been meticulously planned in two key phases:

1. Road Widening with Embankment: This phase focuses on significantly widening and strengthening the Bantigue-Dulangan road, improving its capacity and accessibility for all.

2. Rehabilitation of the Dulangan Road Section: Recognizing the urgent need for immediate attention, the project prioritizes the rehabilitation of the most deteriorated portion of the road leading to Dulangan. This phase is currently awaiting the PRDP (Philippine Rural Development Project) Approval, which will pave the way for a comprehensive rehabilitation of the entire stretch.

Construction Commencement and LGU Funding:

The LGU-funded construction of the Bantigue-Dulangan road widening with embankment has officially commenced following the release of the Notice to Proceed to the winning bidder. This marks a major milestone in the project's implementation and demonstrates the LGU's unwavering commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the community. Initial funding was provided by the LGU while awaiting the PRDP approval for the full rehabilitation.

Addressing Challenges and Reaching Solutions:

The project faced a delay due to negotiations with private lot owners regarding the Right-of-Way (ROW) and the adjoining Dulangan Community Irrigation System (CIS). We are pleased to announce that these negotiations have been successfully resolved, paving the way for the project's continued progress.

Community Engagement and Collaboration:

Throughout the project lifecycle, the MPDO and the Engineering Department have maintained open communication and collaboration with the local community. Regular updates and consultations have ensured transparency and fostered a sense of ownership in the project's success.

Projected Impact and Benefits:

The successful completion of the Bantigue-Dulangan Road Widening Project promises significant benefits for the community, including:

- Improved road safety and reduced traffic congestion
- Enhanced accessibility for residents, businesses, and emergency services
- Increased economic opportunities and development potential
- Improved quality of life for the community

The MPDO and the Engineering Department, under the guidance of Mayor Art, remain dedicated to delivering a high-quality project that meets the needs of the community and contributes to the overall development of the municipality.

Sibuyan Island Remembers Historic Battle with Unity and Resilience

Cajidiocan, Sibuyan Island , 10-28-24

The 80th anniversary of the Battle of Sibuyan Sea was commemorated in Sibuyan Island with a powerful display of unity and resilience. The event, held at Cajidiocan Port, brought together the local community, government officials, and academic representatives to honor the historical significance of the battle.

Hon. Arthur Rey Tansiongco, the local chief executive of Magdiwang, delivered a stirring speech, emphasizing the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during the battle. He highlighted the themes of unity, resilience, and togetherness, which were central to the Sibuyanon's ability to overcome adversity. "This event is not just about remembering the past," said Mayor Tansiongco, "It's about carrying forward the spirit of our ancestors who faced this historical challenge with courage and determination."

The Battle of Sibuyan Sea, which took place on October 24, 1944, was a pivotal encounter in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The Japanese fleet, attempting to reinforce their forces in the Philippines, clashed with the American Navy. The battle resulted in the sinking of the mighty Japanese battleship Musashi, a symbol of Japanese naval power, and inflicted significant damage on other Japanese warships.

While Mayor Greggy Ramos of Cajidiocan was unable to attend due to prior commitments, he was represented by Vice Mayor Ken Rabino. Mayor Nanette of San Fernando was'nt also at the event, but her commitment to the commemoration was represented by Mr. Jerome Madrona, San Fernando Tourism Officer..

The event featured a powerful message from Mr. Cantor of Romblon State University Sibuyan, who spoke on the historical significance of the Battle of Sibuyan Sea and its impact on the lives of the Sibuyanon. "This battle was a turning point in the war," said Mr. Cantor, "and its legacy continues to shape our understanding of history and the importance of freedom."

The gathering included representatives from all three municipalities, members of the Truth Team who spearheaded the transfer of the commemoration to Sibuyan Island, Cajidiocan SB members, LGU employees, and the citizenry of Sibuyan. The event served as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Sibuyanon, who continue to honor their history and celebrate their shared heritage.

The commemoration was a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering the past and honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and peace. It also served as a platform to share stories of hope, promises, and abundance, reflecting the enduring legacy of the battle and its impact on the lives of the Sibuyanon.
