Crafted from translucent capiz or oyster shells, this parol (Christmas lantern) is carefully assembled piece by piece. It is a product of meticulous craftsmanship and artistry, blending tradition and history to celebrate the true essence of a Filipino Christmas.

The tradition of parol-making is said to have started with Francisco Estanislao, who crafted the first parol in 1908, featuring the iconic five-point star design. At that time, Bacolor, the former capital of Pampanga, did not yet have electricity. According to popular belief, lanterns were used by townsfolk to light their way to Simbang Gabi, the early morning Mass. Others suggest that these lanterns were carried during processions of patron saints as people moved from one barrio to another.

The word *parol* is derived from the Spanish *farol*, meaning "lantern" or "light," making it fitting that the parol has evolved into a symbol of illumination and hope. When electricity arrived in Pampanga, light bulbs replaced the candles that originally lit the parol, enhancing its brilliance and cementing its role in Filipino Christmas traditions.
