Junto Nakatani got the TKO-win via body shot against Vincent Astrolabio in the 1st round! This is the first defense of the WBC Bantamweight title of the undefeated 3-division champion from Japan.
The shot to the bread basket remains to be the Philippines’ kryptonite against international competition.
Personal note:
did not have successful ang illustrious career just because of his power and speed. Moving up in weight divisions means you also needed good chin and punch resistance to the body. This is not to take away from Nakatani’s power and technique but recent international (and championship) fights evidently show that Filipino boxers are very vulnerable to body shots. We need to fix this! 🇵🇭
All the best to Team Astrolabio .vincent .Thanks for proudly representing the country!

JUST IN. Melvin Jerusalem gave the phrase “trip to Jerusalem” a whole new meaning after flooring and dethroning Japanese KO-artist Yudai Shigeoka twice en route to a split decision victory. Jerusalem showed poise and effective counter punching early in the fight, mixing body shots with straight right hands, the latter doing the most damage against the lefty Shigeoka. While Shigeoka rallied in the championship rounds, his efforts weren’t enough to overcome the early lead garnered by Jerusalem. Jerusalem is undefeated in his 2 title fights in Japan against local favorites Taniguchi (2023) and Shigeoka. Now a 2-time world champion, a win in a unification match against fellow champions at 105 lbs could catapult Jerusalem’s status in the pages of Philippine boxing history.
Dave Apolinario shakes off the early knockdown and drops Tanes Onjunta twice in the 4th round to force the referee to put a halt to the contest. Apolinario showed a lot of heart and poise by recovering and picking his shots, especially the well-timed right uppercut from hell reminiscent of the “bolo punch” popularized by fellow Filipino former middleweight world champ and hall-of-famer Ceferino Garcia. 🎥 : @malcolm_tunacao (Fb)
Side step KO! 🥊 Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo is a monster at Super Featherweight!!! The bohol native showed off his power in his debut at 130 lbs by stopping Isaac “Canelito” Avelar in the 3rd round. 🔥🔥🔥What’s next for Mark Magnifico Magsayo ? Congrats champ and coach Marvin Somodio 🇵🇭🥊
Breaking! Vincent Astrolabio TKOs Nawaphon Kaikanha in the 11th round in Thailand in Rocky-esque fashion! In the middle rounds, the fight was slipping away from the Filipino courtesy of relentless body work from the Thai fighter. But Astrolabio showed patience and heart by staying on his feet and occasionally throwing counterpunches. Astrolabio dug deep and gritted out the win thanks to a perfectly counter right hand. With the win, Astrolabio is in position to challenge Alexandro Santiago for the WBC Bantamweight world strap. Congratulations @explosive.vincent 🇵🇭🥊
In boxing, there is nothing sweeter than hearing… “AND..the NEW!!!” Marlon “The Nightmare” Tapales turned his dream into reality, defying all odds in Texas USA, unseating MJ Akhmadaliev, and putting himself in position for arguably the biggest fight of the year versus Naoya Inoue or Stephen Fulton.
SENSITIVE CONTENT! ⚠️ @omegasportspromotions’ #Kumbati14 ends with a bang! Christian “The Bomb” Araneta 🇵🇭stopped Jakrawut Majungoen 🇹🇭 in the 9th round. After taking a knee, Jakrawut vomited blood🤮 in the ring, forcing the referee to stop the contest in favor of Araneta. 😮
