The First Physical Internet Symposium was a great success. Over 100 delegates representing about 20 organizations gathered at the University of Asia and the Pacific to participate in this important logistics symposium. Thank you to our delegates and participants and the contributions they made.

UA&P HOSTS FIRST NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE PHYSICAL INTERNET

On November 22, UA&P hosted the 1st National Symposium on the Physical Internet with the theme “Meeting the Global Logistics Challenge in the Philippines through the Physical Internet.”

Supported by Lalamove, Universal Robina Corporation, and other private sponsors like the Pinoy Pilgrim Global Foundation, the symposium was organized by Science Engineering Management Research Institute (SEMRI) in collaboration with the University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPD) – Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), Advanced Research Institute for Informatics, Computing and Networking (AdRIC) and the Enrique Razon Logistics Institute (ERLI) of the De La Salle University (DLSU).

Sarmiento is the Undersecretary of the Department of Transportation for the Maritime Sector. He oversees several agencies under DoTr, including the Philippine Ports Authority, Maritime Industry Authority and the Philippine Coast Guard. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Royal Cargo Inc.

We warmly welcome Prof. Greg Foliente as one of the plenary speakers at the 1st Physical Internet National Symposium!

Dr. Foliente is an Enterprise Professor, Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology, at the University of Melbourne.

He leads an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, education and collaboration initiatives that advance innovation in the built environment and urban systems sectors, with a primary focus towards improved sustainability, liveability and resilience. He is one of the leading scholars on the Physical Internet (PI).

He helped establish the PI@Melbourne Lab some years ago, and promoted the concept of developing an Australian-context PI Roadmap.

With a Returning Scientist Award and funding by the Philippine Government via the Department of Science and Technology “Balik Scientist Program”, he was hosted by the De La Salle University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor. He laid the foundation to improve the awareness, knowledge and capability of Filipino academics, faculty & researchers at DLSU & other Philippine institutions about the concept of the Physical Internet (PI) and Hyperconnected City Logistics (HCL).

We warmly welcome Prof. Henrik Sternberg as one of the plenary speakers at the 1st Physical Internet National Symposium!

Dr. Sternberg is an Associate Professor at the Supply Chain Management Department of Iowa State University.

He is a supply chain management researcher specializing in transport monitoring, environmental reporting, road freight policy, logistics technology adoption and the physical internet. His extensive experience from operational planning and logistics/IT consultancy forms his pragmatic approach to research. Among the tools and applications he has developed are Stardriver, ReLog and Cabotagestudien. Dr. Sternberg has numerous publications on the physical internet.

His goal is to continue advancing logistics and supply chain management and at the same time play an active role in helping companies and authorities to adapt to our changing environment.
