A warm and refreshing good morning dear ladies - mga naggagandang tenista. In behalf of our club management and Board of Directors specially our club members who are sacrificing their playing time for you, it is my honor to welcome you all to our beloved tennis club.
Certainly, tournaments between different tennis teams in Metro Manila is a delightful event. It is always a good way to meet people with the same passion for this great sport. Surely, you will agree with me that tennis is one sport that provides a holistic and healthy life even to super seniors who can still hit balls kahit hanggang dalawang hakbang lang.
I believe every player here today is excited about todays SITL tennis games. Tennis improves physical fitness, strength and of course our health. It is an integral part of the lives of people like us who love tennis. I need not state that tennis makes our life interesting since it is a game we always look forward to once we develop the passion for it. Because passion for tennis is something that frees us from a boring state of life specially when we are retired and/or doing nothing at home.
So let me pass on to you the message expressed in one sports event which you must have heard before. It said " its not winning that counts but the way the games are played and how you enjoyed the competition ". I forgot who said that. I think it was the English poet Lord Alfred Tennyson or Alfred Lord Tennyson, cant remember how the name is spelled.
But I also wish to pass on to you the message of Gen Douglas McArthur in one of his speeches. He countered the speech of Tennyson when he said " By God, there is no substitute to victory".
So, best to follow both, Tennyson who says enjoy your game and McArthur who says try to be victorious. Good luck and congra
