THE STORY BEHIND CHARLIE'S PRITCHON

The product and brand is named after its innovator, Charlie Esguerra. Together with his wife, Dina Mayuga, they have transformed the traditional lechon dish into an even finer cuisine that would cater to various discriminating and creative taste palettes. It all started when they were both stuck in traffic along EDSA. Charlie suddenly thought of frying the pig

instead of roasting it. After two weeks, Dina dreamt of her mother who passed away in 1996. Dina’s mother told her to wrap the fried lechon in pita wedges and use several sauces other than the traditional lechon sauce. With the help of other family members and friends, they were able to develop the product. In 2002, they organized the Pritchon® Corporation and started delivering commercially using the Pritchon® Service Concept. This service concept presently being practiced is highly appreciated by the Filipino consumer market. A service crew would normally goes to the party place with the Pritchon® packaged and ready to be served in a personalized and friendly manner. Here, the service crew and the guests are given the chance to converse over how they would want their dish to be served. Pritchon® is especially prepared and deep fried in cooking oil. This succulent dish is served in a way similar to another traditional delicacy, the "peking duck". The creativity continues as the Pritchon® is expertly carved, mixed with spring onions and cucumber, and wrapped in plain, spinach, and tomato pita wedges. It is given a more distinct and colorful flavor when it is dipped into any one or combination of their seven especially concocted sauces, namely: hoisin, honey mustard, white garlic, chili tagalog, sate, honey lemon, and liver (traditional lechon sauce). Wrapping the tender meat in pita wedges and dipping into the sauces makes the whole experience lively and entertaining for all the guests. This just makes Charlie’s Pritchon® the talk of the town and the taste to remember! In 2014, the company makes known to the pallets of their customers a vast selection of new dishes that carry the same old Charlie’s Pritchon® style of experience, but each to its own unique flavor. The company’s image was also fine-tuned to put an emphasis on experiencing food and service a class above the others. Newly available dishes include a one-of-a-kind baked Norwegian Salmon with pesto toppings, baked chicken fillet, a variety of noodle dishes, dips, and even desserts. Experience the taste to remember.

NAIMAS!

We've always passed by Charlie's Pritchon along Kalayaan Ave and I would ask: When will we get to taste it? My mom would say, When all of you are here.

Two of my siblings live abroad and one of them hasn't been home for the past 10 years. Last January, they came home for our family picture as requested by my 84-year-old mom.

We finally ordered Charlie's Pritchon for dinner with cousins and friends, and had it after the picture taking. When the chef opened the box of the Pritchon, almost everyone said: "Ang liit pala". We're used to seeing lechon bigger than what we ordered. But when the chef started chopping the Pritchon and everyone got to taste the crispy skin and well-seasoned meat, the verdict was: "Naimas". After all, good food shared with family and friends leaves not only happy tummies but memories as well.

PRITCHON FOR A QUADRUPLE CELEBRATION

Our family was in the thick of preparation for our parents’ 50th wedding when our mother passed away in January 2010. Devastated, nobody wanted to celebrate any birthday or special occasion for that year.

But life has to go on, and move ahead we had to. We had our father, Dr. Bayani Quijano, to still think of and take care of. We vowed that if and when he reaches his 85th birthday, we have a great reason to celebrate.

Fast forward 2012: Papang’s 85th birthday on December 5. We decided to surprise him with a celebration. And what party would be complete without a lechon? In the past, our parents always had Pritchon for our parties and special dates. So we decided to once again call up Charlie’s Pritchon and be part of the surprise we were cooking up for Papang.

And was he surprised on that day! He thought he was just going to visit a relative in Cavite. We asked him to pass by our parish church to meet up with the new parish priest. He did not know that inside the parish function room was his birthday party venue. And there present to greet him were his former classmates, his friends, neighbors, and relatives who came in droves.

It was also a quadruple celebration: aside from his 85th birthday, it was also his granddaughter Rachel’s birthday, another granddaughter Rebecca’s treat for consistently being included among the top students in her class, and also my birthday! The food was sumptuous, the atmosphere very warm and loving, and of course, the cakes and the Pritchon were among the centerpieces of the celebration! The guests agree that Charlie’s Pritchon is different and unique!

As we near Papang’s 90th birthday celebration this year 2017, we are looking forward to a grander celebration, and of course, with Charlie’s Pritchon celebrating with us -- not just these past 4 years, but this year and the years to come!

CHARLIE'S TO THE RESCUE!

Our daughter recently celebrated her 7th birthday. It was no ordinary birthday since we decided to throw a party at the last minute. Imagine all the hassles we went through in coordinating with suppliers, making our downpayments, and inviting family and friends - all in a span of 1 week.

We decided to reserve a traditional lechon de leche to shore up our buffet spread. However, the store was unable to commit a bigger sized pig to serve 100 adults and 50 kids. In addition, the lechon is only available for pickup. To add to our woes, our venue does not allow the lechon to be chopped on the spot to prevent oil from dripping on the carpet. We also need to look for someone who can chop the lechon. This held us up until we decided to seek other alternatives on the day before the party.

In comes Charlie's Pritchon to the rescue! Charlie's only needs a 1-day lead time and we confirmed our booking right before end of day. No downpayment was required which was a welcome relief given all the stress we encountered in cramming our preparations. To top it off, Charlie's will be able to deliver the pritchon to our venue and the deal included a service crew. What more can we ask for?

We ordered the Pritchon Grande which comprises of an extra large suckling pig, 200 colorful pita wedges, and 5 special sauces. The delivery arrived promptly despite the heavy traffic in the area due to a sudden downpour. Since I was only expecting a crew, I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 service crews and they were both consummate professionals. They maximized all the meat portions of the lechon and we even took home the pig's head.

Each pritchon wrap was served on the spot. It was so appetizing! Oh boy, our guests really loved it. The white garlic and the hoisin sauces are my personal favorites. Each bite was perfectly crispy and oozing with flavors inside my mouth without overpowering the lechon. The serving size was more than sufficient and satisfied the discriminating palate of our guests. After the party, I continue to hear raves about how good the pritchon was.

Thanks to Charlie's Pritchon for being a lifesaver and a highlight in our daughter's party. It is a must for special occasions. Highly recommended!

A PRITCHON ONDOY STORY

It's a little difficult to choose just one story because of all the memories and years I have had with Charlie's Pritchon in my life. I absolutely love Pritchon!

My dad and I usually have a joint birthday lunch with his side of the family. His birthday is at the end of September and mine is on the 5th of October... Ever since I tried Pritchon, my specific request is always to have Charlie's Pritchon. It came to a point that it was a given and my mom wouldn't even ask "What food do you want?". Her question was already straight to the point of "Are you having Pritchon again?"

Having Pritchon on my birthday doesn't only make me happy, it also makes my Sugay cousins happy since they love Pritchon too. They also already know that when it's my birthday, we're having Pritchon and they look forward to doing so.

A memory that specifically stood out is my birthday in 2009. As expected, Sunday lunch was set for our joint birthday and we were definitely having Pritchon. What wasn't expected was Ondoy. The day before, Saturday, September 26, Manila felt the devastating effects of Ondoy.

During that Saturday, as Ondoy poured down its never ending rain, I actually started feeling bad about being excited for Pritchon. I didn't even want to celebrate my birthday anymore because it just didn't seem fair. I talked to my mom and my sister about it and they assured me it was okay to still celebrate.

Sunday morning came and someone rang the bell: it was my Ate's friend, Gutch. He had gotten trapped in the Marikina area and couldn't get home to Antipolo. His motorbike broke down and his mobile phone was drenched.... He decided to make his way towards his cousins' place who were our neighbors. He somehow ended up in our place instead because his cousins weren't around.

He realized we were having guests over when we started setting up for Sunday lunch. We convinced him to stay and I invited him to have Pritchon with us. Pritchon was an alien word to him! He had no idea what it was which made me insist even more that he had to stay and try it.

So Gutch stayed and celebrated our birthday with us. He absolutely loves Pritchon now! All because of Pritchon and his staying longer in the house, we now have an "inside joke" of him being our adoptive brother, since he was there to celebrate with the whole family.

After the lunch, Gutch actually mentioned how he somehow felt very blessed. Despite the day he had before with all his experiences and "misfortunes" because of Ondoy, he ended up in our home. He ended up celebrating with us and with the opportunity to try this "magical" dish we call Pritchon.

From feeling bad for celebrating my birthday to being excited about sharing this experience I really love, I was thankful that I pushed through with my Pritchon birthday. I was even more thankful that Charlie's was still able to deliver and have someone go to our home.

Pritchon isn't just food to me. It's an experience and a celebration. What I really love about it, aside from being awesome, is that by having the dish, I am able to make others happy too.

The CHARLIE'S PRITCHON I ordered was so juicy, so delectable, and out of this world crispy! All my guests enjoyed the night as the gush of juice oozed out of the flavorful lechon and the skin crackled like music to the ears with every bite. AN O.F.W. PRITCHON STORY. "Last year was the first time I wasn't able to spend my husband's birthday with him since I started working abroad. I still wanted him to feel special on his day, so I decided to surprise him with Pritchon. I got the idea from my dad who used to do the same thing for my mom when he was away. Ordered online and had it delivered to their place. My husband was delighted and sent me this photo. Celebrated with him via Facetime and I wish I could have gotten my share of the pritchon, too... LOL!" -- Thank you, MS. RICA LICOS!
