Otaku Tacloban Convention - Otacon

With the upcoming Otaku Tacloban Convention (Otacon) this year no longer hosted by Otaku Tacloban Cosplay Host Organization - OTCHO, we confirm that the event name now belongs to Tacloban Anime Mascot TV who will be hosting the event from now on.

Otacon was created as the first event of OTCHO, combining the connections of TAMTV’s founder for the venue and some sponsors and the rest (other sponsorships, staff, booth owners, papers processing, posters, venue layout, mascot, logo, etc.) by OTCHO. The name was coined by the director of OTCHO, highlighting the different kinds of otaku in Tacloban especially cosplayers. Otacon is believed to be the first big cosplay mall event in Tacloban, not only attended by kid but also young adult cosplayers.

We are happy to have had this event last year which is one of the events that reignited the cosplay community in Tacloban and became part of history. With the current decision of having it organized by solely TAMTV and their volunteers, we are now formally renouncing our ownership of it for them to officially use the name of the event.

Dear Otaku Tacloban Community,

We hope this message finds you well. We, the Otaku Tacloban Cosplay Host Organization - OTCHO, want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the months.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of our major events this year until further notice. This decision was not made lightly, but we believe it's necessary to take a break, recalibrate our team, and focus on enhancing our individual expertise.

During this time, we'll be working diligently to register our organization, aiming to provide even more opportunities for the local otaku community in Tacloban and nearby areas. We're exploring options to establish ourselves either as a nonprofit organization or as a business to better serve you.

We understand this news might come as a disappointment, but please know that it's a step towards ensuring better experiences in the future. However, we're not completely stepping away! We'll keep in touch and may organize smaller events like busking to stay connected with you all.

Once again, thank you for your incredible support during our past events, including FanFest, CosFair, HobbyExpo, and Otacon. Your enthusiasm fuels our passion, and we're eager to return stronger than ever.

Otaku Tacloban Convention - Otacon confirms to maintain its name this year with a general theme but is set to a later date for more preparation time, tentatively in October. 👻🎃

Otaku Tacloban Convention - Otacon is the flagship and first major event of Otaku Taclobon Cosplay Host Organization OTCHO. It is an independent event (no collaborations with other organizations) and it is considered the largest event of the organization because of its various elements and preferred venue. From the term itself "otaku", we include in this event the different types of otaku--cosplayers, gamers, illustrators, toy/figurine collectors, etc.

The event is supposed to be annual. (We'll be working on that.) It started last February 25, 2023 with theme "Retro Cosplay" (RetroCos) in the Expansion Activity Area of Robinsons Marasbaras Tacloban and it is set to be held there again next year if ever approved.

In summary, Otaku Tacloban Convention - Otacon is
✔️ the flagship event of OTCHO
✔️ an independent event
✔️ largest event of OTCHO with various elements
✔️ the first official event of OTCHO
✔️ set to be annual
✔️ will usually be held at Robinsons Marasbaras Tacloban

Aside from OTCHO, there's another otaku org in Tacloban that make events, the latest one being the Genshin Impact Cupsleeve Event at Espazio Cafe last February 18, 2023. They have also helped out in our event, Otaku Tacloban Convention - Otacon, especially on the safety and security of the area and the registration process of the attendees. Do join them if you want to help them out with their events.

We currently are looking for volunteer staff who are interested in helping us create more fun and enjoyable events here in Region VIII!
