Jimmy and Jey Uso reveal that their uncle Umaga saved their lives because, as teenagers, they had not planned to pursue professional wrestling but rather football:

"We were in a bad place because our football careers had ended. We had debts to pay and were working as movers until Uncle Umaga talked to us and trained us. He told us that if we left that job and committed to learning how to wrestle, Uncle Umaga would come every day to train us, no matter if he had already wrestled that day or if he was tired. He would be there for us."

Umaga trained the Usos and turned them into professional wrestlers, leading to the Usos being signed by WWE. Unfortunately, their uncle Umaga never got to see them debut in WWE, as he passed away the same year the Usos signed with WWE (2009). The twins made their WWE debut in 2010.

This is why the Usos always honor their uncle Umaga in WWE, using several of his signature moves, and why the Usos wore face paint in their early years in WWE.
