A Guinness World Record in 2016 was made by India of the Largest Crochet blanket of the World. It was done by an organization made for the cause "Mother India Crochet Queens". A lady named Subashri Natarajan started the blanket on her own but soon realized that she needed help as she had to break a previous record set in 2015 by South Africa. She asked through social media for external help. Around 1000 women from India and across the globe joined in for the cause. They made blankets, each of size 40 x 40 inches and combined them to make up one enormous blanket measuring an astonishing 11,148.5 m² (120,001 ft² 72 in²) – easily covering the football pitch on which it was laid.
This year the Largest Crochet Blanket attempt is being made by Malta Society of Arts in Valletta. in 2018 Malta will be the Cultural Capital of Europe. They plan on showing the world what "Open Society" means. This blanket will show the diversity of their society. They attempt the blanket to be made out of 10.000 crocheted single blankets (140 cm by 200 cm) which will be joined together at the corners and will later on be distributed for charity. People from around the world are joining in for the Cause.
