SPORT JIUJUTSU
Japanese term 柔術 (say: jiujutsu) means „benign art”, „art of softness”, or else „art of flexibility”, where 柔 = benign, soft, limber flexible) whereas 術 = skill, way, art), which should be meant as, a method of combat involving self-adaptation, i.e. a skilful way of using movements and vital pressure points in opponent's body in order to defeat him, while using as little physical strength as possible. By fighting in this way, which requires know how of appropriate combat techniques, skill of using them in practice, physical condition, and psychological resistance, there can be defeated a stronger physically opponent, even if he is armed.
Evolution of Japanese war craft yawara (柔) currently known as jujutsu (柔術) has not come to an end. Many theoreticians and practitioners of the hand-to-hand combat from various countries while basing on the techniques of jujutsu, karate, judo, aikido, wrestling, boxing, but also on their own experiences and ideas, have worked out original systems of self-defence, real combat and combat sports. Even though they relate to the tradition of Japanese martial arts and use the name jujutsu (also known as ju-jitsu, jiu-jitsu), in fact have not much in common with this original samurai combat system.
