Support Kyiv Underground Culture based in Podil
HVLV Bar ft. Hangout created the Podil Underground Community Foundation (PUCF). We begin fundraising, upholding, and reviving our teams.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, bombing the cities throughout the country. In the first weeks after the invasion, they killed more than a thousand civilians, destroyed hundreds of houses, and occupied dozens of cities.
Some of the premises of cultural institutions have been bombed by Russian missiles and artillery. Survived concert venues, art spaces, clubs, and bars work as warehouses and volunteer headquarters.
HVLV Bar ft. Hangout is representative of the Podil underground, a district that has been and remains the historical and cultural center of Kyiv for centuries.
HVLV hires more than 30 people. Members of our teams, who were safe at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, are now preparing Molotov cocktails instead of cultural projects, sewing bulletproof vests and delivering medicine across Ukraine.
In times of peace, we organized festivals, held concerts, and invited European musicians to art residencies. A strong and large community has formed around our cultural centers, which is the backbone of the underground culture of Podil and Kyiv in general.
We need to prepare for the reconstruction of our state after we win, the resumption of cultural organizations, and the implementation of activities. To strengthen not only territorial but also cultural borders.
To do this, we need to take care of the basic needs of the teams: housing, food, security.
We are currently raising $30,000. It'll allow us to cover basic needs for the next three months and focus on maintaining and restoring the work of our organizations after the war.
