Huge congratulations to Project Harar for helping give one very special 6 year old girl a second chance at life. This is a great example of what makes this charity so incredible and why their work is so critical...
Last year in Ethiopia we had the pleasure of meeting Negalem, a beautiful and gentle little girl with a benign tumour that had been rapidly developing since birth. Without treatment, Nagalem would have gradually suffocated, or starved due to her inability to swallow.
And so began a worldwide search to find doctors skilled enough to treat Negalem, which brought her to husband and wife team Dr. Teresa O and Dr. Milton Waner who agreed to conduct the $500k procedure.
With the help of Project Harar Negalem and her father were flown from rural Ethiopia to Manhattan. The 12-hour procedure was one of the most complicated procedures the doctors had ever done, quoting that "On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 12".
The surgery was a success and the swelling is expected to go down over the next few months. Negalem will now have a chance to attend school, make friends, and live a healthier, happier life thanks to the efforts of Project Harar and the US team.
I feel beyond proud to be a part of this mission, both personally and from a photography perpective. To see my photos being used at the start of these videos affirms the reason I do what I do. To help spread the word about the way Project Harar helps change lives, raise awareness and generate support.
