In 2018, I found myself standing on unfamiliar ground. My nest was empty, I’d left my nursing career, and I didn’t know who I was outside of the roles that had defined me for so long—wife, mother, nurse. I was also confronting my bisexuality and the strain it placed on my marriage. It was a period of deep depression—something I had never experienced before.

Amidst feeling lost, yoga became my lifeline. I made a commitment—one I’d been wanting to make for decades—and began a daily practice. Gradually, through consistent time on the mat, I started to hear the whispers of my deeper needs and desires, and slowly rebuilt a sense of trust in myself. Yoga didn’t "fix" me, but it created space for healing and self-discovery.

On this , I honor the courage it takes to show up for yourself with an open heart… the power of the tender hearted warrior.

Next time you're on the mat, try using a block, strap, or blanket in a pose you find challenging. Rather than thinking of it as a "crutch," view it as a guide that helps you deepen your experience.

For example, place a block under your hips in a seated forward fold. Notice how it allows you to soften into the stretch without strain—creating space for both strength and ease.

Meet Saffron Reeve, Held's newest yoga teacher!

Saffron began her journey with yoga 5 years ago, during a difficult period in her life. After a few years of her own consistent practice, she decided that she would love to teach, and help spread the same awareness, and peace of mind that yoga had helped her to cultivate in this busy, fast paced world.

She set off on a trip to India in 2022 to embark on in-depth studies and training, and has been teaching in various countries all over the world, such as Mexico, India, Sri Lanka, and now here in Portugal, ever since. Her intention when teaching others is to provide a safe, nurturing space, for people to spend just with themselves, to take a pause, to be in silence, to go inwards, and to find a spark of bliss.
