On the sidelines of the fifth LDC conference, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering met with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Doha, Qatar, today.
Conveying his best wishes to His Majesty The King, the UNSG expressed his appreciation for Bhutan’s “harmonious” development strategy. He acknowledged the challenges Bhutan faced while in pursuit of sustainable development goals, and offered solidarity and support to work together. He also welcomed Bhutan’s contribution to UN peacekeeping mission.
Prime minister updated the UNSG on the excitement and pride for Bhutan to graduate from the LDC category this year and thanked the UN and development partners for the support over the years. In preparation, he also said Bhutan, under the leadership of His Majesty, has embarked on a major public sector reform.
The meeting also saw discussions on climate change, education, digital transformation, hydropower and economy.
