2024 WAS WIIILLLLD! 🔥
Dragon Boat Regatta Qatar (DBRQ) started out as a small band of dragon boat paddlers, with a dream. This group of paddlers all have experience with racing internationally and dreamt of bringing the experience to their local community. They also wanted to bring the international community to show off the beauty and culture of Qatar. The opportunity to grow Dragon Boat Racing as a sport locally also presented itself.
South Korea, China, Philippines, these are just a few of the places where the group has paddled with their team, and just last year, a few of the members competed during the 14th IDBF Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) in Ravenna, Italy. It is a competition hosted by the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) every even-numbered year; wherein competing teams are already-established teams that represent each country in each class.
The DBRQ 1st Leg was held on the 9th of February 2024 at the Katara Cultural Village. Almost 400 attendees, counting only the athletes and race committee, graced the event, with ten (10) Premier teams and three (3) Corporate teams competing in the 200m distance.
The DBRQ 2nd Leg was held on the 10th of May 2024 at the Katara Cultural Village. The attendance went up to almost 500, counting only the athletes and race committee, this time with ten (10) Premier teams and five (5) Corporate teams competing in the 200m distance.
The DBRQ 3rd Leg was held on the 6th of December 2024 at the Old Doha Port. The venue was more open than Katara, with establishments lining the boulevard, where spectators dined while the event was ongoing, giving more exposure to the event. Counting only the athletes and race committee, the attendance exceeded 500, with the participation of ten (10) Premier teams and five (5) Corporate teams.
DBRQ thanks all the participants; athletes, race committee and the spectators for coming to see how a dragon boat race unfolds: chaotic, energy-filled and most of all, the sense of camaraderie between competing teams because of the same sport shone.
We look forward to seeing you all again next season.
