“I do not work for money not recognition. My only desire is to heal myself from the tragedy of my father’s death”.

🩺Dr. Carmen Pantiș, an alumna of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Iuliu Hațieganu” in Cluj-Napoca, honoured us today with an engaging speech on the significance of organ donation and sentimentally shared a piece of her HEART with us. She addressed important topics for future medical professionals, such as brain death, vegetative states and irreversible coma, explaining them thoroughly to the benefit of our participants.

❣Dr. Pantiș managed to overcome her personal pain by dedicating her life to helping others deal with theirs. She states that "death, in the end, transforms everything into nothing" while she recasts the taboo topic of death into promoting organ donation for the purpose of saving human lives.

🎓Charming, comical, and inspiring, Dr. Samuel Webster delivered a speech worthy of the big screen. He touched upon the highs and lows of his professional career while also relating the experiences which made him discover the qualities that make up a great teacher. He believes that a teacher should lead by example and try to break the barriers between teachers and students.

❣During his engaging presentation, he made sure to encourage students to take advantage of opportunities and embrace failures as valuable learning experiences. He concluded by highlighting how crucial teaching is for future medical professionals: "In medicine, we are always learning and always teaching".

👨‍🏫Dr Ciprian Tomuleasa, who also spoke at the very first edition of HEART, kicked off the chain reaction that led the conference to what it is today. 10 years later, he started the last day of this year's edition with a captivating speech, opening up the world of scientific writing for each and every one of us.

📑Speaking from his vast experience in research, Dr. Tomuleasa advised and encouraged aspiring researchers and highlighted the need for integrity, accountability and mutual respect. He guided us through the stages of article writing, from its conception to its publishing, and explained the delicate balance between the expectations of journals, readers and authors.

😴Dr. Mihaela Oros, a dedicated and well-known pediatrician and a specialist in pediatric sleep medicine gifted us with an informative and comprehensive speech…a snooze-fest, in the best way possible!

💙Sleep seems to be the basis of a truly healthy lifestyle, as sleep deprivation is correlated with multiple chronic disorders. Dr. Oros's walked us through what a balance between sleep, nutrition and physical activity looks like, as in her own words: "sleep health is multidimensional".

💞We thank Dr. Oros for enlightening us on the topic of sleep health, and we all left with a bit more initiative to implement it in our lives, cause we all know we don’t particularly excel in that regard. 😆

❤Adela Hanafi's speech emphasized the importance of embracing diversity in education to foster a more understanding and compassionate society. She shared her experiences to highlight the transformative power of acceptance and empathy in creating supportive learning environments for all children.

🧸Adela Hanafi's work with Conil School aims to educate both typical and atypical children through a concept based on love, empathy, and respect. The school’s goal is to provide equal opportunities for all students, ensuring a future full of possibilities for each child.

✨The key themes of Hanafi's speech—acceptance, hope, empathy, tolerance, teamwork, and determination—reflect Conil School's vision. Our speaker’s message encourages proactive steps and a solution-oriented mindset to make a meaningful impact.

💭A popular belief is that “teamwork makes the dream work” and Dr. Ioana Stănculescu is a vivid supporter of this statement.
That’s because patients’ journeys can differ, even if their disease is the same.

👥For this reason our speaker accentuated the importance that multidisciplinary teams have in optimising patient outcomes. The majority of patients are in favour of this treatment approach as well.

❣Ultimately, Dr. Stănculescu disagreed with the expression that there is no “I” in a team and contradicted it by stating that there are several “I’s” in it and the individuality of each one composes an efficient and resilient medical team.

✨As we concluded the first day of Conference Speeches, we all left with a much deeper appreciation for the differences we have as humans, and how these are actually capable of bringing a team together.

🧬Dr. Stylianos Antonarakis walked us through the complexity of our human genome, there not being two people on earth that have the same genome except for homozygotic twins. He steered the conversation onto then discussing the concept of genetic determinism and emphasised how “genomic variability provides the possibility to evolve and adapt”.

🧪Just as in a chemical reaction where one element sparks a cascade of events, our genetic makeup sets off a chain reaction of biological processes, each influencing the next in an intricate dance of molecular chemistry.

❤‍🔥His speech was a tribute to how a passionate person can captivate other people’s attention and convince them to pursue it further. Leaving the auditorium, some of us were feeling like genetics wizards, while others are already dusting off their old genetics textbooks at home. He has reignited our interest in genetics in just a few moments - no small feat!

❣In the conference speech of today, Cornel Amariei, inspired us by talking about the revolutionary invention his team brought about to revolutionise medicine as we know it: AI glasses for the blind.

✨He highlighted 3 valuable lessons that we want to share with you.

🎭"Failure is opportunity in disguise"
👥"Ordinary people, in the right context, can do extraordinary deeds"

💖"Make MEANING, not MONEY"

💡Through light hearted anecdotes, Cornel took us through his journey: from failing chemistry class in high-school to becoming an entrepreneur, breaking the rules and founding the first robotics lab in his alma matter that has revolutionised the domain in Romania. All these were the catalyst to the chain reaction that resulted in his team’s achievement, in creating a product to help people in ways we could not even imagine.

💞After his speech, we all learned how to take ourselves a little less seriously, and find the right context that takes us from ordinary to extraordinary.
