Stockholm Fashion District, together with Svensk Handel and Swedish Fashion Council, has produced a report on the Swedish fashion industry in 2024. The report highlights that the Swedish fashion sector is a key societal player, with Swedish exports doubling over the past eight years.

“The report demonstrates how important the fashion and footwear industry is for Sweden and internationally. It also emphasizes the need for the industry to receive support and resources to move forward, especially in a time of new EU regulations and long-term sustainability efforts,” says Helena Waker, CEO of Stockholm Fashion District, regarding the report.

In December, our CEO Helena Waker represented Stockholm Fashion District at a significant meeting in Brussels, where the European Fashion Alliance, of which we are proud members, presented their comprehensive annual report “Status of European Fashion 2024”. The event included a specially organized Fashion Policy Round Table at the European Parliament, where Sweden’s EU Commissioner Jessika Roswall contributed valuable insights and perspectives.⁠

The detailed report provides an in-depth analysis of the fashion industry’s ongoing transformation, with particular focus on three key areas: the accelerating transition towards more sustainable business models and production methods, the implementation of groundbreaking technological innovations across the entire value chain, and the growing needs and strategies for skills development within the sector.⁠

Last week we celebrated the 110th anniversary of Trade Partners Sweden, Stockholm Fashion District’s founder, and WHAT A NIGHT! With a wonderful mix of photos from the evening, we wanted to extend the greatest of thanks to all of you colleagues, partners and friends who came and made the night so amazingly memorable. You are all so special to us!

Now, about a week later, when we have started to recover from the festivities we think we can conclude that this party qualifies as the best party in Trade Partners Sweden’s 110-year-long history. And as commonly known - it’s all about the people! ✨

The annual State of Fashion report from McKinsey & Company is now published and the fashion industry is facing a turbulent period in 2025, according to the report. However, despite the challenges, there are still growth opportunities for innovative and adaptable brands. Tonight Swedish shoe brand Icebug has been awarded the Encouragement for Action Award 2024 – given by Stockholm Fashion District to promote sustainable development in the fashion industry. The award was received by Nora Björning Engström from Icebug.

”Stockholm Fashion District congratulates Icebug on their award, praising their commitment to sustainability,” says Helena Waker, CEO of Stockholm Fashion District. ”We applaud Icebug’s leadership in transitioning to a more sustainable business model. On 2nd October, the Nordic Retail Summit was held at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre, a conference organized by Svensk Handel. Leading representatives from retail, authorities, and politics gathered to inspire each other and discuss the most important future issues in retail. ⁠

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson gave the opening speech and highlighted the role of retail and the importance of Sweden as a Trading Nation for the Swedish economy and societal development. Read more about the conference here:
