Born in the United States and living in Berlin, Lindsay Lawson’s (1982) work spans a variety of media and a particular research-process of contractual legal agreements she called ‘Arrangements’. Her practice often deals with the presence and agency of objecthood in virtual and physical spaces. Lawson’s most recent work breaks apart images and text to leave the view with inherently flawed partial messages in the form of paintings and sculptures.

Lawson holds an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has participated in several prestigious residencies, including the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan (2013); 1646, The Hague (2016); Trinity Square Video, Toronto (2015, 2017); and the Thun Ceramic Residency, Bolzano (2017).

Platform Portraits: Meet Elin Stampe

Elin Stampe brought "Disrupting Ebb and Flow" to Sergels Torg in the Summer of 2023. This piece harmoniously blends the fluidity of water and the intricate duality of light. Conceived in 2019, Elin meticulously tailored it for Sergels Torg, allowing it to capture the essence of wind patterns, urban energy, and the vibrant rhythm of city life.

Materials & Techniques
Elin has an affinity for textiles that convey movement and bring alive spaces. Pivoting between intuitive hand-drawings and precise 3D modeling, she achieves a fine balance between visualization and tactile exploration. Key materials in her arsenal? Versatile latex, shimmering glass, sturdy metal, and ethereal fabrics like tulle, all combined based on the direction and soul of the project.

Day in the Studio
Every day is a journey for Elin. Mornings typically kick off with quiet introspection, setting the tone for the rest of the day. By 10 am, she's fully engrossed in her studio, with her passion dictating the task at hand. She fluidly shifts between research, creation, and sketches, ensuring a continuous flow of creativity. Though she's not one for frequent breaks, the occasional coffee or short walk helps rejuvenate her spirit.

Bridging Art & Audience
Elin's studio plays a pivotal role in mediating her raw artistic intent and the public's perception. It's where drafts take form, where experimentation happens without judgment, and where the final piece starts taking shape before it's revealed to the world, ensuring her art resonates on a deep, meaningful level with its audience.

ALDEA is an institution that aims to foster the creative ambitions of our open community. Professional grade workshops (metal, wood, digital fabrication), gallery, working studios, residency program and online cultural management systems are all part of our broad set of resources. Innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship across art, design, and technology are at the core of our methodical approach used to push creative boundaries.

The selected artists will be housed in a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment in downtown Bergen. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a large shared bathroom, and a living room.

Each artist will receive:
▲ A single room inside the apartment.
▲ Living Expenses 1,000 Euro
▲ Travel expenses maximum 500 Euro
▲ Shipping expenses maximum 200 Euro
▲ Production Fee 1,200 Euro
▲ Free access to the Aldea Workshops

In addition, the group will be given 250 Euro to employ a text writer for their exhibition.

The Curatron software system is used as our method to select the artists for residency. Curatron is an online software tool developed to involve artists directly in the curatorial selection process. Each artist applying for the residency can view the entire pool of applicants and select other applicants they would like to spend their residency with. Curatron then calculates the final group from every applicant's selection.

Platform Stockholm is now looking for a talented and forward thinking producer/administrator that will partake in the leading of our organization between August 2022 and January 2023.
