Handelsspexet 2025 is recruiting: The Vice General, Head of Sponsorship, Script Group (4 x Script writers)

The Spex Presidium consists of three people, so we are looking for a third person to complete our team as the role of The Vice General. As Vice General, you will be involved in every part of the Spex Process by helping us ensure that all project groups function smoothly.

Handelsspexet 2025 is also recruiting its first committee member: Head of Sponsorship. As Head of Sponsorship, you will be responsible for leading the sponsorship team for acquisition of both financial and material sponsorship.

Joining the Script Group offers you a unique chance to lay the groundwork for our project and make this year’s performance truly memorable! You’ll start by collaborating to select this year’s theme, then spend the autumn planning and writing the script. Finally, you’ll create and write new lyrics for all the musical numbers.

❗️Announcement❗️

The time has finally come for a new generation of Spexers to step forward and create yet another year of mystique and magic. Handelsspexet 2025 will be lead by none other than Axel Legelius and Linn Ji, who’ll take on the rolls of Co-Spexgenerals!

Both Linn and Axel are experienced spexers, with Axel being an actor 2024 and Linn the Choirmaster. With their remarkable (sp)expertice and entusiasm, we’re sure they’ll create an absolutely fantastic project during the coming year.

Applications for other positions within the project will soon be opened, so stay tuned!

Need I really say more? The mere name is sure to conjure up images of swindling swordfights, plethoric plunders, and death-defying ventures like none other (at least according to himself). Decades of looting have left him indebted to the tax authorities — perhaps this old sailor is ready for another adventure at sea to avoid the vicious State Agents?

Blenda
This sly, money-grabbing financier has clawed her way to fortune all her life through every means possible. Now she’s finally ready to retire and live like a queen, as soon as she finds the right location to achieve her final project: building a luxury Tax Haven! If only her good-for-nothing niece Alberta could stop wasting time with studies and help her plan it!

Alberta
Who needs practical knowledge when you have theory? Though being a die-hard academic, Alberta’s hard work in the classroom always seems to go unappreciated by everyone around, especially her nasty, self-obsessed aunt Blenda. Perhaps a thrilling adventure is just what she needs to break the pattern?

Meet the Pirates🏴‍☠️
Flat, skinned and ruined, the three pirates Armand, Arnie and Ash find themselves in debt to the State Agents with nothing to pay them with. Their only option seems to be joining Weasel on her mission to steal the treasure. Being the best pirates in all the seven seas, however, this should be a piece of cake!

Weasel
Every fairy tale needs a good old-fashioned villain, and so does the Spex. This opportunistic Weasel plans on climbing all the way to the top, and stealing the infamous treasure for herself. Captain Silver, State Agents and even her henchmen, the Pirates are nothing more than pawns on the gameboard of her master-plan.

Up first… The Lovers💕

Bonny
Tired of her overdramatic father, Captain Silver, Bonny wants nothing more than to go out to sea and have an adventure of her own, and this treasure hunt could be just the ticket! After dressing up as a rough, hardy sea-dog and fooling her dad, she manages to sneak aboard the ship and so the quest can begin!

Jim
A flamboyant and devil-may-care youngster who would rather spend his time dreaming about tropical islands than studying with his classmate Alberta. After stumbling upon an old treasure map, Jim seizes the opportunity for adventure and sets out with a ship and crew to find the riches.

Cupid
Love is in the air! Oh wait, it’s just Morten (alias: Cupid). As it turns out, spreading romance on stage wasn’t as easy as he thought, and so this winged vigilante takes drastic measures to ensure we get love-song and a happy ending this year as well.

Handelsspexet sets out for its most stupendous and spectacular performance yet. Based on the tales of Treasure Island, this pirate adventure offers everything from sultry love-affairs, spicy family drama, genuine sword fights, and of course plenty of opportunites for omstarts! As always, the SASSE performance is followed by an unforgettable all-night afterparty like no other.

A brief spexstory;

Handelsspexet's first ever show took place in 1959 as a part of SSE'S 50-year anniversary. What originally was a very small initiative, grew through the years, until it became an independent project. Today, Handelsspexet consists of approximately 50 project members and our Director, Micke Klingvall.

Since our establishment in 1959, we have performed in 12 different venues, with our first stage being our beloved Rotunda. Since 2018, Intiman has been our home theatre and is, of course, where this year's Spex will take place

Handelsspexet originally was conducted in Swedish, but since 2022, the show has been performed completely in English. This makes us one of the first Spexes in Sweden to make this shift.

Spex: a type of student theatrical performance or farce.

A vibrant tradition in student life, blending uproarious comedy with biting satire, offering a humorous take on university life, societal norms, politics, and culture. Originating from the German words for 'play' and 'spectacle,' these performances are characterized by exaggerated characters, witty dialogue, clever scenarios, and lively musical interludes, incorporating elements of song and dance.

What makes Spex truly unique?

It's the dynamic engagement with the audience. Spectators hold the power to influence the performance, shouting out commands like 'Omstart!' (English: Restart!) to indicate their approval of a scene, prompting actors to improvise or alter the direction of the narrative on the spot. This interactive element adds an exciting and unpredictable dimension to the experience, ensuring each show is a one-of-a-kind spectacle🎭

✨️BACKSTAGE POSITIONS✨️
It is time for our off-stage groups:

Film and Photo:
Our Film and Photo crew will take pictures of the whole Handelsspex, and one of their main responsibilities is recording the entire Spex and making it into a movie.

Scenography:
You will be helping out setting the stage, quite literally.

Costumes and Makeup:
Every actor needs to fit their role, and under the leadership of our Head och Costumes and Makeup, you will make the show come alive in colours and help the actors get into their roles.

HR:
Together, we are the moodmakers of Spexet that will help with the Spexweekend and the intense rehearsal week. We are the good vibes in the project.

Party and Internal Events:
We will host both internal and external events, and at the end of the Handelsspex, you will help out and plan the big afterparty.

Sales and Marketing
In the Sales and Marketing team, you will help out selling tickets and making sure everyone knows what the Handelsspex is.

Sponsorship:
Help us get some amazing sponsorship so that the show can go as planned and become an amazing experience.

🎭ONSTAGE POSITIONS🎭

Do you love being on the stage? Then, these positions are for you❤️

ACTOR
As an actor, you will be performing on stage and be the carrier of Handelsspexet 2023.

There is no previous experience needed, and auditions will be held a few days after recruitment closes.
We are looking for 10-12 actors.

BAND
In the Handelsspex we have only live music, therefore our band is a crucial part of the show. Lead by our Music Director, we are looking for anyone that can play an instrument, about 3-5 bandmembers.

DANCERS
If you have a love for dance and are up to learning a few routines, this is for you. No previous experiences are needed here either.

CHOIR
The choir backs up our band and actors. You want to be on stage, but maybe not the leading role this is for you.

Last but not least the second General for Handelsspexet, David Cronsioe! More famously known from last year as Fransesco, the reporter, and the charming prince in Handelsspexet 2022.

Why did David initially step into the Spex world? A love for acting. And why did he come back not once but twice? For the incredible community and the lifelong friendships that blossom each year!

David's Spex journey has been nothing short of impressive – from being an actor in 2022 and 2023 to taking on the role of Creative Director in 2023 and contributing as a Student Ambassador in the same year.

A fun fact about David: He is immune to caffeine and hates it ☕❌

Introducing Elias Tjärnqvist, the charismatic Head of Spons, guiding us through the Spex experience! A second-year bachelor student here at SSE, Elias brings a mix of curiosity, energy, and humor to the Spex team.

What drew Elias to Spex? FOMO! After missing out last year, he heard from others about the incredible experience and knew he didn't want to miss out on the fun.

Elias was a Floor Manager during SNNC 2022 and is currently one of two quartermasters at SASSE. A quirky fact about him: He's a versatile eater, conquering everything except mushrooms. Seriously, mushrooms are a hard pass for him in any form.🍄🤢

He is looking for two people to help him with finding sponsors; to provide the project with everything it needs!

Meet Liza Lopez, our imaginative Head of Scenography, steering the visual narrative of Spex 2024! In the final stretch of her Bachelor in Business and Economics, Liza embodies a combination of creativity, outgoing spirit, and an adventurous streak.

What inspired Liza to join Spex? It was love at first show! Having watched the spectacle unfold, she couldn't resist being part of this awesome project.

Liza's journey in SASSE includes being a project member of the sponsorship group in the Spex, a testament to her commitment to the Spex. A fascinating tidbit about Liza: She's a true adventurer, having explored 15 different countries this year alone!🌍✈️

She is looking for four people to join her and make the Spex stage come alive!
