To burst a bubble: Bees don't build their famous hexagonal cells!

You can clearly see it here: They actually build interlocking circles. Zoom in and observe the blank triangle between each set of three circles. They then infill each triangle with wax, to strengthen the bond.

New beeswax is soft, so over time the pliable new comb bends and molds to form a hexagon shape, which provides the strongest linkage.

You can clearly see this here. Note the blank triangle between each set of three circles. The bees then infill these triangles with wax to strengthen the linkage. The pliable new comb then naturally bends and molds to form that distinctive hexagonal shape. 🤯
