Venture Global LNG, for having secured the first FID in the US since August 2019 with their Plaquemines project. They have successfully signed up buyers ranging from European utilities to leading Asian players such as Sinopec and Petronas.

Taking a deep dive into the shifting contours of LNG contracting on the second panel with Aravind Mohan (Glencore), Gen Kunihiro (Diamond Gas International Pte Ltd ), Varun Gujral (ENGIE), Sid Bambawale (VITOL GROUP) and Delphi Sun (ENN Group). We enjoyed listening to a really comprehensive discussion that spanned from volatility and liquidity to indexing and duration risk.

A very interesting panel to kickstart here in Singapore, moderated by Pat Roberts, Conference Chair. Joining the session was a quartet of highly esteemed speakers in Hitoshi (Toshi) Nishizawa (JERA Co., Inc.), Andrew Walker (Cheniere Energy Inc.), Jay Song (ExxonMobilonMobil) and AK Singh (Petronet LNG Limited) who shared their perspectives on global developments in the LNG market.

It was clear that the maxim of the moment is volatility. Speakers noted that extreme price volatility represented a threat to the energy transition, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, and that affordability posed a significant medium-term problem for countries aiming to displace coal and secure a sustainable supply of LNG. Jay Song highlighted that in order to ensure the sustainability of the gas industry, it need to achieve the trifecta of affordability, ample supply and meaningful mitigation of methane emissions across the value chain. He stressed the need for governments and industry players to take a long-term view on making sound investments in infrastructure.
