During November, Team ADVENT facilitated a 3 days 2 nights Annual Training Camp for a Martial Arts (Taekwondo) school.
Besides the Taekwondo training, students also participated in some team building activities. They also had a chance to visit the Hay Dairies Goat farm and participated in an educational tour.
To close off the camp, students were joined by their parents for a BBQ dinner on the last night.
Connect with ADVENT on how you can make training experiences fun and rewarding.

“A pleasant surprise for me. Wasn’t expecting my son to enjoy the outdoors. This is an impactful event for my son. He went home and readily shares his experience and lessons learnt with his mum n sis. I can tell he truly enjoy his time with the wonderful guys from ADVENT. This event also serves as a good bonding time with my son. Kudos to the team who made everything possible”.

Father and son go on a camping trip.

After eating their dinner around the campfire, they go to sleep in their tent. A few hours later, Son wakes up.

“Dad, are you awake?” He asks.

“Yes, son. What is it?” Answers the Father.

“Look up and tell me what you see.” Asks Son.

“I see billions of stars,” says Father.

“And what does that tell you Dad,” asks Son.

Father is quiet for a moment then says: “It tells me that someone has stolen our tent.”

We are planning for a family camp very soon. Watch this space for updates!

Principle 6: Respect Wildlife

Considerate campers observe wildlife from afar, give animals a wide berth, store food securely and keep garbage and food scraps away from animals. Remember that you are a visitor to their home.

Responding to any crisis requires adaptive leadership, which involves the 4 A’s:

1. Anticipation: of likely future needs, trends and options.

2. Articulation: of these needs to build collective understanding and support for action.

3. Adaptation: so that there is continuous learning and the adjustment of responses as necessary.

4. Accountability: including maximum transparency in decision making processes and openness to challenges and feedback.

Principle 3: Dispose of Waste Properly

Toilet Paper

Use toilet paper sparingly and use only plain, white, non-perfumed brands. Toilet paper must be disposed of properly! It should either be thoroughly buried in a cat hole or placed in plastic bags and packed out.

Natural toilet paper has been used by many campers for years. When done correctly, this method is as sanitary as regular toilet paper, but without the impact problems.

Popular types of natural toilet paper include stones, vegetation and snow. Obviously, some experimentation is necessary to make this practice work for you

Join us this March for a Leave No Trace Challenge. Details will be up on Friday. Stay Tuned!

Leader-Member Exchange Theory

For followers, applying the concepts of LMX theory is easy: align yourself with the leader, take on extra tasks, and expect positive results.

For leaders, LMX offers a greater challenge, because making your team as productive as possible will mean finding ways to turn out-group members into in-group members.

Additionally, LMX theory has important implications for improving diversity and inclusion.

Call us to discuss on your next leadership theory.

A 12-year-old boy asks his father where he can go to the toilet.

The father replies, “That’s the beauty of camping in the woods — you can go to the toilet wherever you want.”

After 5 minutes, the boy returns to the camp, where his father asked where he went to the toilet. “In your tent,” the boy replied.

We've got an exciting parent-child outdoor event coming up during the March holidays that's going to teach them how to go to the toilet in the woods properly!!

Watch this page for the details.

15/02/2022

The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace provide an easily understood framework of minimum impact practices for anyone visiting the outdoors.

Principle 2: Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces

The goal of travel in the outdoors is to move through natural areas while avoiding damage to the land or waterways. Understanding how travel causes impacts is necessary to accomplish this goal. Travel damage occurs when surface vegetation or communities of organisms are trampled beyond recovery. The resulting barren area leads to soil erosion and the development of undesirable trails. Backcountry travel may involve travel over both trails and off-trail areas.

Travel on Trails

1, Land management agencies construct trails to provide identifiable routes that concentrate foot and stock traffic. Constructed trails are themselves an impact on the land; however, they are a necessary response to the fact that people travel through natural areas.

2. Concentrating travel on trails reduces the likelihood that multiple routes will develop and scar the landscape. It is better to have one well-designed route than many poorly chosen paths. Trail use is recommended whenever possible. Encourage travelers to stay within the width of the trail and not shortcut trail switchbacks (trail zigzags that climb hillsides).

3. Travelers should provide space for other hikers if taking breaks along the trail. The principles of off-trail travel should be practiced if the decision is made to move off-trail for breaks. Hikers in the same group should periodically stop to rest and talk. Avoid shouting to communicate while hiking. Loud noises usually are not welcome in natural areas.
