Where we come from & why we dance: Interview for Dance a Dance from My Body - Huayi 2024
Choreographer Chou Shu-yi and dancers from Singapore and Taiwan shed light on Dance a Dance from My Body. In this interview, Chou Shu-yi shares his impetus in dancemaking and specifically, what moved him to explore Asian Chinese identity and culture through dance—in itself is a common language.
We find out more too about the process of creating this inclusive work, and what it has been like for the dancers who have had to draw on their own life experiences to create movement as material for this work.
Also unique to this production is that Chi-wai, the lighting designer from Hong Kong and Yu-jun, the music designer from Taiwan were involved in the creation process from the start.
Dance a Dance from My Body takes place 23 & 24 Feb 2024 at Esplanade Theatre Studio as part of Huayi - Chinese Festival of Arts 华艺节.
