Heard of everlasting flowers when searching for flowers that last? These so-called everlasting flowers are simply preserved flowers, which are touted to last forever. In our experience, preserved flowers last around 6 to 9 months in humid Singapore, a far cry from the claims of these flowers being everlasting. So how do we try to make them last longer? Make sure that your preserved flowers don't get wet, keep them away from direct sunlight which fades their colour, and definitely in a dry and well ventilated area to prevent moisture build up! Preserved flowers in enclosed vessels (such as belljars) also tend to last much longer, and popping in silica gel packets are helpful as well for keeping moisture at bay! Here's what a teaching day looks like for me! I usually bring my own coffee from home along with 2 huge bottles of water, cos 水桶. Made a wasted trip to Jimei to buy some flowers but the flowers haven't arrived yet 🫠🫠 so I decided to do a quick detour to my fav macdonalds outlet to have a quick mcgriddle (side note, this batch somehow tastes bitter?!) Class was from 930 to 4pm, headed off after class for a (finally) successful flower run at Jimei and Far East. Got home to spend some time with the toddler who prefers to just shoot water out the window rather than play with the activity I planned (toddlers 🥲🥲) Finished off the day with a family walk, and then emails after the little one sleeps before finally knocking off for the night wheww. Teaching days are always much more hectic than normal days but also so much more fulfilling! P/s (does anyone else miss their kid while working, and feel guilty for not working while spending time with their kid?!)

Always thought that being a florist is all about looking pretty and putting together dainty arrangements? There's actually a ton of grunt work involved, and you never know when you'll need to pick up a saw (or other tools) to finish up a job 😬 That being said, we are around a whole lot of beauty in our line of work, so it's all (kinda??) worth it! In case you were wondering what I was doing, I was making the wooden box that houses the arrangement in the first part of the video. Due to some shipping screw up, we had 2 less boxes than we needed, and couldn't find anything suitable locally, so we had to get our hands dirty to create those last 2 boxes! The very first time I had to do a foam arrangement (for a friend's wedding no less), I stuck the foam under a running tap to wet it 🙈 thankfully the arrangement survived the wedding and I attended my first floral arrangement class soon after and learnt the correct method of soaking a foam. Here's another no no when soaking foam - we always make sure to not use our hands to forcibly submerge the foam.
