🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ My First Triathlon: An Unforgettable Journey 🏃‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️

From Doubt to Determination
A few years ago, I was battling weight issues and an inactive lifestyle. Running and cycling? Not for me. But with the support of my family, especially Chloe ( ), I found the courage to try. My wife signed me up for my first triathlon on 22/07/2024, giving me just one month to prepare.

The Pre-Race Chaos
Two days before, my “new-old” shoes broke—twice. I glued them back and hoped for the best. My bike tire also suffered a deep cut a week before, but I trusted the patch and sealant would hold.

Race Day
Nerves took over, but I focused on my goal: finish within 3 hours. Swim, bike, run—each stage was a blur. I pushed hard on the bike and paced myself on the run, my weakest event.

Crossing the Finish Line
No big celebration, just relief. My shoes held up just long enough, and my family was there cheering me on.

Post-Race Reflection
I missed my target time by 2:53min, but I’m proud. I placed 9th in the swim, 1st in cycling, and 15th in running out of 37 competitors in my age group. No podium, but it’s a win for me.

Will I Do It Again?
Not sure yet—fatigue hit hard afterward. As for an Ironman? Maybe one day. For now, I’m just grateful for the journey.

Year 2020 vs Year 2023.
A world of difference in terms overall physique, strength, agility and health.
Covid has indeed changed people for better or worse. At least for me, it’s brought to me a level of health & physics image I could only dream of previously. I’m in a far better shape as compared to a few year ago.
This goes to show that with a mindset shift, a certain degree of diet alteration, and a hell lot of persistency for consistency, dreams do become reality.
My fitness journey has only began. In time to come, I’ll be giving myself goals to work towards so that I do not become stagnant.
I’ll constantly be moving and I’ll never allow anyone to doubt my ability to remain consistent ever again.
Pssst YOU! Yes YOU! Have u been thinking that it’s impossible for u to lose weight & be healthy, well I’m that perfect example of someone who refused to succumb to THAT mindset.
Remember, “If It Is Easy, EVERYBODY Would Do It” and lastly, “There’s No Growth in the Comfort Zone”.

365. The number of days of sweat, blood and tears to win back my health.
Today marks the 1st anniversary of my weight loss journey. And to this end, my goal was simple - that was to lose as much weight as possible, in a sustainable manner - so that I can finally rid the pains that have plagued me over the years.
And sustainability to me meant that the weight loss cannot come from crash diets or cutting out food groups or even medically-induced, and most importantly, has to be something that I CAN DO for a long time to keep the pounds away.
Many have expressed surprise and I am often asked “How the hell did you do it?”
My response was simply CONSISTENCY.
Consistently - exercise, pick the right foods, plan the meals, weighing myself daily, have a strong mindset (and the willpower), intermittent fasting etc.
Having attained the 1-year mark, I am certain that so long as I consistently grind, I am bound to succeed in anything I do.
I think losing a total of 42.4kg is no mean feat. It is NOT the end but the beginning of consistently wanting to make the wins in the area of my health in order to be the role model my children, my family and my friends around me can look up to.
If you’ve been wanting to change your lifestyle but find it extremely difficult, chances are you may not have found that very important WHY yet. If that is the case, you can always reach out to me and I’ll be glad to share some tips on how I do what I do.
Importantly, I would like to share with everyone my family’s mantra. That is - I CAN, I WILL and I MUST.
The show must go on.

Over time, there is a need for change. In so doing, we evolve.
And that is precisely what we do here at Kelvin Luffs Photography to keep up with the times.
Whilst creating photo memories remain a huge part of what we do, I would also like to share with u that we are now helping our clients create videos ranging from B-Rolls, interviews, to mini-series & even commercials!
So keep a lookout in this space (and on IG Story) as I will be posting more of such videos along the way.

Thank you for sending us their products in preparation for Chloe’s OCBC 100KM virtual ride! I have been a regular user of their products for awhile now but it has never cross my mind to let Chloe use them. However, STARBALM®️ products are made of 100% herbal ingredients and are suitable for people of all ages.
The mommy , Didi , Daddy me & commenced our 100KM ride on 16/05/2021! It was an awesome 50KM ride as all of us had lots of fun. During this leg of the ride, Chloe displayed strength & resilience to complete this 50KM ride.
So I told my wifey that if Chloe can accomplish 50KM in a single ride, she’ll probably be able to go slightly further and so we did. For the 2nd leg of the ride, I planned a ride to .
It wasn’t an easy ride because this side of Singapore isn’t very bicycle friendly especially when some of the pavements in the older region of Tuas are rather unkempt.
Thankfully, this ride was w/o many issues & we were able to complete the ride safely and we also brought along the cold spray from STARBALM®️ for Chloe to use.
Honestly, wifey & I both agreed that it would take Chloe 3 rides to complete 100KM. Was pleasantly surprised that she completed it in 2 rides instead. Really a solid & resolute effort from this little 6 year old girl (birthday on in Aug).
This girl has showed wifey & I what true resilience, determination & grit is. Even a child as young as Chloe can exhibit these wonderful traits; truly a learning lesson for us adults.
So now that we are done with this 100KM challenge, it’s time to look forward to the next challenge.

A proud Mama and Papa moment for and I.
I got a call from OCBC last week regarding 's registration in the 100 km virtual ride category of the upcoming OCBC Cycle. They told me Chloe’s profile was glaring enough for them to pick up because she is the youngest (6 years old) participant. Furthermore, she will also be ’s youngest rider for its 100 km category since the event’s inauguration. So this got Chloe (and us) a chance to be shot and interviewed by The Straits Times!
Chloe darling, you have indeed come a long way. Daddy and Mommy have seen you grow so much over the past few months of riding. From the initial 5 - 10 km rides to now easily riding 30 - 40 km each session! You have learnt to be resilient and persevere through each of our rides. You have whined and complained countless times but you have not once stopped pedalling because you know the meaning of “I can, I will and I must”. As your parents, we hope this is something you will take heart to as you journey through life. We are glad you know about perseverance; finishing what you started, as well as knowing that in life there will always be easy times (down slopes) and tough times (up slopes) and if we stick through it, we will grow as a person.
We hope you enjoy each ride as much as we do! Our weekly rides are good opportunities for us to teach you things from road safety to general awareness of your surroundings to meeting people and showing you snippets of what life generally means with the various experiences you encounter while riding. We will continue to try our best to make each ride interesting for you by taking new routes and bringing you and to different playgrounds so that you have something to look forward to.
Onward to more cycling adventures and exploration!
