FROM UNDER THE BED TO THE BOARDROOM: THE JOURNEY OF A GLOBAL ENTREPRENEUR

Growing up in poverty, Dr. Patrick Liew faced many challenges.

Together with 7 other family members, Dr. Patrick lived in a small flat with other tenants. To make room for himself, very often, he had to sleep under his grandmother's bed.

His family had to live hand to mouth while struggling to pay for his school fees and keeping him alive. To make matters worse, he had to battle with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) while completing his formal education.

Throughout his life, he went through many failures, was conned multiple times, almost became bankrupt on a few occasions, was kidnapped, and almost lost his life on at least four occasions.

How did Dr. Patrick overcome these challenges to become the Chairman of a public listed company?

How did he help list three different businesses in three different securities exchanges across three countries?

Imagine your life's journey began in a one-room apartment in Toa Payoh's Lorong 6, and you went on to become a millionaire in your 30s and hit the apex of the investing world by the time you were 40.

Mr Tan Chin Hwee, now 46, is CEO-Asia Pacific (the first Asian to hold this position) of Trafigura Group, one of the world's largest companies in the business of trading physical commodities such as oil, metals and minerals.

He is a Director of SPH, Lien Aid Limited (Singapore), KKH Health Endowment Fund; and is on the Board of Trustees of NTU. He has also taken on the International Olympic Council Financial Advisor role.

The name and design of the car has been inspired by the Vanda orchid, Singapore’s national flower.
