A polarizing fight that was the first of its kind: Bare Knuckle Thai, essentially Muay Thai with a BKFC twist. And who better to try out this new ruleset than two living legends of Muay Thai? In the main event of BKFC Thailand 5, longtime friends and Muay Thai icons Buakaw Banchamek threw down with Saenchai in a special rules Bare Knuckle Thai bout.
Fighting at a catchweight of 68.5kg, the weight cut appeared to have no effect on Buakaw whatsoever. Those in attendance and those watching via the BKFC App were able to see elbows, knees, and kicks being thrown at a BKFC event for the first time. And with two legends in the Squared Circle, this Bare Knuckle Thai fight turned into a Muay Thai masterclass minus the gloves.
In the end, Buakaw was declared the winner by unanimous decision and also made it clear he would NEVER fight Saenchai again.

👊 𝐏𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐯𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐏𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢 👊

In the second co-main event, Fani Peloumpi defended her BKFC Women's strawweight belt against up-and-comer Po Denman. It was truly a battle of veteran vs. rising star. Peloumpi, primarily a Muay Thai practitioner, had trouble finding her range against Po, who dedicated much of her training to boxing. Apart from that, Po also effectively utilized her exceptionally long reach to both block and counter any strikes thrown in her direction.
Peloumpi simply had no answer for Po's top-tier counterstriking technique, nearly identical to the one she'd utilized in her fight at BKFC Thailand 2 to win the BKFC Thailand belt. Before long, Po Denman was making Fani Peloumpi look like a novice-level boxer.
In the end, after 5 rounds of domination, Po Denman was crowned the new BKFC Thailand women's strawweight champion by unanimous decision, making her the new #1 contender for the BKFC women's strawweight championship.

👊 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐒𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐨 𝐯𝐬 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐠 👊

In the first co-main event, fighting for the vacant BKFC Thailand featherweight title were two undefeated BKFC Thailand veterans: Kritsana Srisang and Sarun Srioumboo, who were both 2-0 going into the fight.
The two were also coming off of knockout victories at BKFC Asia 4 in December 2022. Sarun came out strong in the first two rounds, outlanding Srisang. By the third round, it was clear that Sarun was ahead on the judges' scorecards.
However, seeing a window of opportunity, Kritsana Srisang landed a left hook that connected clean behind Sarun's left ear and left him limp for several moments to claim the come-from-behind 3rd-round KO victory. In doing so, Srisang also became the new BKFC Thailand featherweight champion.

👊 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐜𝐡 𝐯𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐞 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠 👊

Making his debut on BKFC Thailand was Kris Kirsch. And what better opponent to give him than the promotion's biggest character Tee Jay Chang? As per usual, Chang went off on the mic during the press conference, talking about how he would finish Kirsch in the first round and that he would be having fun if the fight went beyond that.
Kirsch remained calm and composed, as he usually does, and did not get sucked into Chang's trash talk or mind games. In the first round though Tee Jay Chang sustained quite serious damage from 2 fouls and tried valiantly to recover. By the second round, Kirsch had committed a 3rd foul and subsequently got the win by KO. The fight could have been different without the 3 fouls that were committed by Kirsch.

Cruiserweights Daniel Dorrer and Tofan Pirani were the biggest fighters competing on BKFC Thailand 5. Despite their intimidating nature and imposing statures, they did come off as rather friendly. During the press conference, Pirani even said he had a hard time hating Dorrer as the German fighter seemed to have a smile on his face all the time, living up to his nickname of 'The Peaceful Warrior'.
There was little to no beef going on between the two ahead of the fight but fight fans were expecting a great fight. Unfortunately, after a first round that saw Tofani Pirani being the primary aggressor, the fight was stopped due Pirani suffering a hand injury.
As a result, Daniel Dorrer was declared the winner by TKO via doctor's stoppage.

Prior to their fight, Andrew Miller revealed that Teerawat Wongaon was previously his training partner a few years back. Because of that, it seemed Miller knew how to expose his opponents weaknesses.
The fight was a one-sided affair that went in Andrew Miller's favor. Miller landed a punch to the temple that put his opponent down for the count to claim the quick 1st-round KO victory.

Gustaf Cedermalm and Joemil Miado were both coming off of knockout victories at BKFC Asia 4 in December 2022. They were 1-0 in BKFC and someone was set to suffer their first loss in this showdown. Miado was calm and calculated, waiting for windows of opportunity to land, while Cedermalm appeared to be more aggressive, loading up with every punch. Ultimately, Cedermalm's aggression cost him just as Joemil Miado's patience paid off as the Filipino fighter scored two knockdowns at the conclusion of the first round. This spelled the beginning of the end for Gustaf Cedermalm as Miado applied more pressure to secure the KO victory at the start of the 2nd round.

👊CHALOEMPORN SAWATSUK vs JONNY TELLO 👊
Chaloemporn Sawatsuk has perhaps the best redemption story. From a life sentence to boxing his way out of prison, a victory at BKFC Thailand 5 would've been the storybook ending for Sawatsuk. He was coming off of a TKO victory at BKFC Thailand 3. Jonny Tello of Canada took the spot as Sawatsuk's opponent on less than 3 weeks' notice. Surely, this was easy work for Chaloemporn Sawatsuk, right? For the first four rounds, Sawatsuk appeared to be winning the fight, consistently landing his shots and scoring a knockdown in the fourth round. However, in a display of heart and fortitude, Tello mounted a comeback for the ages, swarming his opponent with punches in the fifth round before knocking Sawatsuk out at just under a minute of the final round to clinch the comeback KO victory.

Purya Rokhneh vs. Yohann Marin is perhaps another case of never juding a book by its cover. To the untrained eye, Marin would have appeared to be the favorite coming into this fight with his chiseled build. However, Rokneh is an acclaimed boxing coach who was instrumental for the success of several fighters who have competed in prior BKFC Thailand events. This was made clear upon the opening bell, with Rokneh displaying refined footwork, slick head movement, and fast hands. Rokneh made Marin look like a beginner, scoring 5 knockdowns in 2 rounds while landing over 75% of his punches. In the end, the former Iranian national team boxer clinched 2nd-round KO victory.

👊Pongpisan Chunyong 🇹🇭 vs. Tha Pyay Nyo 🇲🇲👊

Pongpisan Chunyong was looking to get back into the win column following a loss in a BKFC Thailand featherweight title fight back in September 2022. His opponent Tha Pyay Nyo, a Lethwei fighter, wasn't going to make it easy. After surviving a first-round knockdown, Tha Pyay Nyo went on to brawl with Pongpisan Chunyong in what may be an early Fight of the Year contender. Throughout their five-round bareknuckle war, Pongpisan Chunyong landed his best punches but could not finish off his Burmese opponent. Tha Pyay Nyo continued to march forward, blocking Chunyong's punches with his face while calling for the Thai to keep punching him and landing his signature hooks to the body. The two never let their foot off the gas, trading punches for five rounds as the crowd erupted at the display of violence, toughness, heart, and grit. It was a display of Muay Thai vs. Lethwei packaged into bareknuckle boxing rules. While Pongpisan Chunyong was declared the winner by unanimous decision, both him and Tha Pyay Nyo were the winners, as they won the hearts of those in attendance of the fight.

A battle of Russia vs. the Philippines. It's no secret that both Russia and the Philippines have produced top-caliber boxers over the past several decades. The match between Mike Vetrila and Allen Wycoco just another matchup of fighters from both nations, except under bareknuckle rules. From the very beginning, Vetrila's size played to his advantage as he applied tremendous pressure to Wycoco. A first-round knockdown appeared to do the job as Vetrila continued to dominate the fight with his long-range jabs and mid-range hooks. Still, Wycoco displayed tremendous heart, despite being clearly outsized, and continued to engage with his opponent. With his improved performance, the Phuket-based Russian took home the unanimous decision victory.

A battle between two Thais both oozing with confidence, the fight was everything both men promised it to be in the press conference. Maseng was looking for revenge in his BKFC Thailand 5 fight following a loss to Tumba under Muay Thai rules several years before. The two Fight Club Thailand veterans slugged it out over the course of 5 rounds, with Maseng drawing first blood by busting Tumba's eye open. Still, Tumba (or Mad Tum) lived up to his name and baited his opponent into throwing his best shots before also inflicting damage on Maseng. The fight went the distance but it was action-packed for all 5 rounds. However, Maseng could not avenge his loss as Tumba was declared the winner by split decision in a glorious start to the event.
