We are saddened at the Vistabella Regional Complex :(

We have lost yet another one of our icons. Black Stalin has passed. May he rest in eternal peace and may his family find the strength to cope at this time. Condolences to his family and T&T.

Leroy Calliste, better known as Black Stalin, was a leading calypsonian known for his lyrics against European colonial oppression. He has won the Calypso Monarch competition on five occasions and the Calypso King of the World title in 1999. With songs like "Black Man Feeling to Party", "Caribbean Man" or "Sufferers" contributed to the art-form, which are still favorites today.

The celebration of Divali in Trinidad is one of the largest in the English speaking Caribbean. Celebrations are not only held at temples and by religious groups, it has been extended to homes, communities and now organizations by hosting special events to commemorate this occasion.

Divali, is celebrated by Hindus around the world. It is also called the Festival of Lights which symbolizes the lifting of spiritual darkness. It is a celebration of good over evil and light over darkness. Divali means an array of lamps (deep: lamp; vali: array).

The observance is based on Hindu scripture: the return of Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita from his fourteen-year-long exile and his vanquishing the demon Rawan. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminate the kingdom with deyas.
