Many of you eat black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day to guarantee good luck in the coming year; similarly, many people of Hispanic heritage believe buñuelos bring good luck when eaten on New Year’s Eve.

Named after our favorite Tito (grandpa), Two Many Tamales offers Tito’s Delight, which is our take of the traditional Mexican Buñuelo. It’s a melt-in-your-mouth crispy delight sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Perfect for breakfast or as a snack served with hot chocolate or coffee. It is also best served with vanilla ice cream, topped with a chocolate and caramel topping.

Tito’s Delight is our take of the traditional Mexican Buñuelo. It’s a melt-in-your-mouth crispy delight covered in cinnamon sugar. Did you know?

The tamale can be filled with all kinds of meats and sweets. A few days before the traditional Tamalada, a family member (usually the matriarch) prepares the filling. While our tradition is to fill them with classic fillings of beef, chicken, or pork, all kinds of variations have emerged. The combination of the corn husk, manteca and tamale filling come together in a special way to make that hearty, earthy taste.

There are as many tamale filling flavors as there are families who make them, with recipes handed down from generation to generation. Two Many Tamales currently offers 9 different fillings including the classic meat flavors, a Vegan/Vegetarian tamale, a Bean & Cheese tamale and a Chocolate Coconut dessert tamale. And they are selling fast this year!!

Did You know?

Our homemade tamale all begins with a quality corn husk. Corn husks originated in Mexico thousands of years ago from the corn plant. Our ancestors also taught the Americans how to practically use every part of the corn plant – especially the stalks and corn husks, which many people discarded. When dried out, corn husks or hojas are used to weave mats, baskets, make shoes or dolls and of course, wrap the meat-filled masa dough tamale.

The corn husks are stiff and dry so starting the night before the Tamaladada, a family member has to prepare each husk by cleaning and making sure each husk is free from tears and debris. The husks are then soaked overnight, becoming soft and pliable.

Two Many Tamales has a dessert menu, too! While our generational tamale tradition doesn't include desserts, we know of many Latino families that include desserts in their holiday meals.
