So, it’s kind of funny. You always hear, “If it’s on the internet, it must be true, right?!” A week ago I put up some amazing information about a couple wanting to buy SGS. Unfortunately, that is not happening anymore as last Friday, they backed out.

Honestly, we couldn’t make this up if we tried. We’re not sure what will be happening, but as of right now, Barry and Stephanie Schwartz Webb will not be retiring anytime in the very near future. Unless someone wants to buy a store with major roots in the community for an amazingly low price…

So all good things must come to an end…It’s not really an “end” per say, but more of the ending of one book and the beginning of it’s sequel.The past 2 years have been extremely hard for SGS. Mentally, physically and emotionally. The pandemic was a brutal whirlwind of curbside only shipping/shopping. We haven’t sold that much toilet tissue since Barry opened his janitorial part of SGS in 1977! I’ve never had more conversations about one ply or two ply (like it really matters when you’re desperate, right?!) We shipped sanitizer and other essential items as far as Florida! The days were very long and we just had to get up early the next morning and do our best to do it all over again. Most of the staff was at home, too afraid to come in, concerned about contracting some disease we still knew nothing about. Sometimes they would come inafter hours and work on the massive amounts of balloon orders we had waiting for us. We called them “The Balloon Fairies”. Behind the scenes, Barry was tending to his wife, Monna who had suffered from a stroke the year prior and was slowly becoming a shell of her beautiful self. He was able to bring her home from the rehab facility in which she was living, but this meant his time was limited at SGS. Not only was this his wife, but she was also the bookkeeper and backbone of SGS. Things were slowly falling apart at the seams, both at home and at SGS. And on July 27th, 2020 it was time for her to leave us here on earth and see her parents and her five older brothers who had left her so many years ago. Barry lost a wife and adoring partner of 50 years and Stephanie lost her mother and her first/best friend. Fast forward: after losing 3 full timers, Barry, Stephanie, Amy and Troy had to step up and fill these positions. So many early mornings and late nights. It finally came to the realization that we couldn’t do it anymore. Our bodies and minds are just too tired. It’s time to move on. And here’s the sequel…Amy, Troy and I are retiring from SGS on July 3. I believe we have about 50 years of SGS between the 3 of us. Barry will stay on as a consultant to Ron and Wendy Surrendranath. They’re very excited to take over SGS and are hoping they can help you with your occasions just as we did. It’s going to be hard at first, but please know they’re looking forward to being a part of the community. We’re setting them up with all of our major reps and we’re hoping they’re able to stick around for as long as we have been.It’s definitely bittersweet but all things, good and bad, must come to an end. Thank you to our loyal customers. The kids coming in for sparklers, bang snaps and free balloons, parents coming in for gender reveals, baby showers and birthdays. Wedding showers and bachelorette parties. Mitzvahs, Communions and Baptisms and of course, repasses and shivas. We thank you for being by our side for all these years. We will miss our camaraderie with the public and laughing with old time customers and the new ones. Thank you for being our friend ❤️🎈
