The previous reel’s ’bouquet’ is now an art piece on my mantle. It spent the last 48 hours in a plastic bag that had been spritzed with water to fully hydrate the petals. I’ll be keeping tabs on longevity.

Here’s a little thing that can make you happy. Some flowers are shipped with ‘hairnets’ to protect their petals. These can be repurposed in so many ways! Wrapping paper, yarn, spools of wire, fishing line and ribbon are just a few of the items that can be kept in control with them. Bulbs can be planted in them (keeping the openings vertically) to deter moles and voles from eating them.

Floristic Dialogue with and Advanced Color Series Assignment 2 Interpreting the season around you - Fall on Brewster Flats, Cape Cod Bay, Brewster, MA where the tide recedes over a mile. Starting point was the clouds with all the subtle purples interpreted by limonium, mottled hydrangeas, statice, anemones and callicarpa. Layered in is the nod to sunshine and sand. Textural qualities played a roll in selection of components with references to grasses, driftwood, sea creatures and water. Peaceful anticipation of the approaching winter.

A novel centerpiece or coffee table arrangement, this design was recently created for the second intimate workshop for gals I met when I did a presentation for their garden club. This bouquet, with an ethereal quality, is in a handcrafted structure. It’s perfect for the bride who wants something a little different. It was created as part of a workshop demonstrating the spider web technique to an intimate group of garden club friends looking to expand their knowledge of floral mechanics. Texture, color, and flower placement were discussed. Did you notice the shallots tucked in to transition color from the garden rose to the structure? They also provide a different form and texture. The relationship of the color of the vase with the eucalyptus contributes to a cohesive design. Imagine if green foliage had been used - harmony would have been diminished.
