It's never too early to start thinking ahead to the 2025 Festival of Trees! We are happy to take donations of artificial Christmas trees in good condition (pre-lit trees with lights that no longer work are fine!) and holiday decorations now to use in future years. We've passed the halfway mark for our $100,000 matching grant challenge from The Gilchrist Foundation! We appreciate all the support from individuals, families, organizations and businesses as we work to preserve the opera house for future generations and create a more accessible space for the entire community!

Drumroll, please …

We are excited to announce that the 2025 spring musical at the Akron Opera House will be Shrek the Musical! We can’t wait to see this show come to life on the historic opera house stage. Mark your calendars now for April 10-13, 2025 and watch for details on auditions, ticket availability and more in January!

Attention parents! As you make plans for 2025, add dates for the 2025 children's theater production to your calendar!

We're excited to bring back Missoula Children's Theatre for a production of Rumpelstiltskin. Rehearsals will be held the week of Feb. 24-28, with two performances on Saturday, March 1.

Students in grades 1-7 are invited to participate. Watch for details on our website and a flyer to go home with A-W students in January!

Congratulations to Stephanie, Jennifer and the entire team at The Spot Espresso Bar & Cafe for winning the Peoples Choice award at the Festival of Trees!

Thanks again to everyone who made the event a success including sponsors, those who decorated trees and donated wreaths, auction bidders, and all who came to the opera house. We can’t wait to do it again next year!!!

Good morning! We’re starting the day with a few sneak previews of the Festival of Trees! You don’t want to miss seeing them in person from 5-8 on Wednesday, Dec. 4 and 10-2 on Saturday. Watch for photos later today of the Wreaths for a Reason silent auction items.

This Giving Tuesday and holiday season, please consider a contribution to the Akron Opera House building fund. Every tax-deductible donation makes a difference. In fact, every dollar is currently being doubled by a matching grant challenge from The Gilchrist Foundation.

In 2024, we replaced the roof and started work to restore the unique round windows at the balcony level and replace windows at the theater level. We are working with an architect to finalize the comprehensive renovation design and building plans.

Visit our website for project details – www.akronoperahouse.org. The plan includes preserving the historic elements of the building, while bringing it up to modern standards for accessibility. The street level will be transformed with a center entrance consistent with the original 1906 design, and include a wider staircase, dedicated office and ticket window space, updated restrooms and an elevator. We will also add a catering kitchen and event space for opera house events, community events and rentals.

- 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, Dec. 4 (during Akron's Hometown Christmas)
- 10am to 2pm on Saturday, Dec. 7

Admission is free, donations for the opera house building fund will be accepted. Silent auction bidding will close at 1:45p.m. on Saturday. All auction proceeds will benefit building fund.
