America’s first Shaker settlement
The Shaker Heritage Barn is one of several Shaker buildings in the Watervliet Shaker National Historic District. In 1914 vandals burned down the original barn and the Shakers made the bold decision to rebuild despite their dwindling numbers. In 1915, the new barn was constructed using the latest technology. Rebuilding the barn reflected the optimism of the Shakers and their faith in the future. We think that the barn is a perfect, hopeful place to begin a couple’s new life together! Shaker Heritage Society is working closely with property owner, Albany County to revitalize this important historic site and every barn wedding helps further that effort financially.
