DJ Harris

DJ Harris mynewdj is a mobile DJ service provided by Hands On Music, LLC. Hello. My name is Aaron, but I go by DJ Harris. Then we booked our next event for $300.

I provide DJ service for weddings, school events/dances, private parties, corporate events, promotional events, and more. I have been a professional DJ since 2016, but I have been producing and recording music since 2005. I recently decided to become a professional DJ after my wife and I decided to go the DIY route for music on our wedding day. I purchased all the equipment and put together the pl

aylist and timeline. I am glad we chose to do it ourselves because I enjoy this kind of stuff, but it made me realize how many other people really need an economical choice for a DJ.

2 years after our wedding, my wife and I started our company and booked our very first event for $100. In our first year, we had a goal of just doing 10 events to get our feet wet, but we booked over 20 events and one of them was a non-profit event in Portland. Now, we have settled into a comfortable price range that is economical, reasonable, and highly competitive with other event companies in Oregon. My new goal is to book a minimum of 20 events per year, and make sure that at least one of those events is a non-paid event. We will do very little advertising (to keep our overhead costs low, and our prices economical), and I do as much as I can in-house (i.e. website creation and maintenance, business admin, etc.). Also, we keep this as a part-time business because I do have a full-time job in additional, to this business. In the future, we will expand from mobile DJ service to operating a wedding and event venue space. I do what I do because it is so much fun to play a song and watch how people react to it. Even people who don't dance enjoy hearing their favorite song played. I also love it when my clients come up to me after an event and say, "Wow! You are really good at what you do!" I know that they are saying this because my prices are reasonable and they probably were not expecting my equipment or skills to be as good as it turned out. Even more, I like it when students at a school dance end the night by stopping by my DJ table and saying thank you. This is great because students have no idea how much it costs to hire a DJ and they probably do not care. They have no incentive for paying me a compliment, but they do it because I am a genuine guy and I do my best to make sure that my Clients and Guests are enjoying my service. If you believe in the type of service that my company provides, I hope that you will tell your friends to consider us for their next event. Send us a message and let's chat more about your event. I'd love to help in any way I can.

Many couples will choose their wedding venue because of the natural backdrop beauty. They are hoping to get amazing pictures and give their Guest an amazing view to gaze upon as the nuptials proceed. Unfortunately, many venues don't plan ahead by thinking about how the DJ or sound engineer will place the speakers to provide the sound for the ceremony. In my first few years of DJ'ing, this was the most frustrating part of the whole wedding event. It's a matter of locating the electrical outlets, keeping the power cords out of the way, placing speakers up front without blocking the bridal party, and getting sound from my sound board to the speakers (more wires).

Well, I have invested my efforts into finding a reasonable solution for ceremony sound coverage and it comes down to two simple things: smaller speakers and wireless audio. The speakers are small, but they still push out some quality sound at good volumes in an outdoor space. When it comes to wireless sound there are a couple of options: bluetooth, digital, and analog. Bluethooth connections are good for consumer applications, like at home. In a professional setting, bluetooth is prone to dropouts and it is rather unsecure because just about anyone with a smart device may be able to tap into the signal and push their own audio (yikes!). Digital wireless seems like it would be good solution, but the 2.4ghz frequency is crowded by so many other devices. Live audio requires a consistent and strong signal otherwise it will get choppy and the experience will be terrible. Analog wireless is the best solution as long as the frequency in use is clear. This should not be an issue at most venue locations, but occasionally the analog space is too crowded and would result in a poor audio experience. Wired is always the best solution, but venues typically do not pre-install wired connections so it's a matter of depending on professional experience to make a decision that preserves the natural beauty of the ceremony space while ensuring that the sound experience is high quality.

Hopefully this post is an example of what I mean when I use the word "professional." A professional can navigate tough situations like this without adding extra stress to your day.

2023 will be my 8th year as a DJ. Each year I learn something new about myself and how to provide the best possible experience for my clients. From 2020 through 2022 I learned the value of focusing on connecting with the right people.

My goal for 2023 is to support 30 groups/couples for their special event. I want to work with people who are fun, easy-going, loving, caring, and excited about hiring an awesome DJ for their event. Additionally, I want to DJ for Guests who enjoy celebrating and will appreciate the unique experience of partying with a professional DJ versus a playlist.

The odd thing about setting goals and talking about them publicly is that it expresses vulnerability. As I am posting this I am thinking, "What if I don't reach 30 events and people assume that it is because I'm not good at what I do?"

Well, I don't have time to be too worried about this small goal of reaching 30 DJ events because my bigger goal is to invest in some commercial real estate so that I can open and operate a Venue space in Albany, Oregon. And I have completed quite a bit of research and number crunching to figure out how to make that come to life.

Wedding DJs can cover your wedding day from Guest arrival until the last song at the reception.

HOWEVER

It is also possible that you hire a band and a DJ to create a dynamic atmosphere for your Guests.

You need to think about your budget and the type of experience/memories that you want to create.

Every option has pros and cons and the only person who can tell you which option is best is YOU.

But I am excited that today I get to share the space with two other talented groups. It is. It common that I get hired into situations like this.

Can you see the speakers? That's because I always choose a low profile setup so that most Guests (and the photographer) cannot see the speakers, but they can hear the sound coming from them.

This includes power cords and audio cables.

This venue is beautiful and I don't want the equipment to take anything away from the ceremony views.

This is something small that can help show the difference between an amateur DJ and a professional DJ. An amateur is concerned with getting sound to the audience. A professional is thinking about the whole experience. Cord management. Speaker positions. Quality of wireless signals and overall sound. Dead and hot spots that may be annoying for Guests.

As a Guest or client you only see speakers placed on a stand or on the ground with microphones, but with a professional DJ there is a lot more happening behind the scenes.

Here's to all the future Oregon couples who will be hiring a DJ for their wedding. May you find a professional person/team who cares about the whole experience from start to finish.

Shot out to for being an amazing host venue.
