It is with great sadness that we share that longtime CMS piano teacher and accompanist, Carole Houghton, 91, of Whitehall, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Carole dedicated her life to music and to teaching. Carole joined the CMS faculty in 1995 and taught hundreds of students during her 25+ year career. She was a gentle and kind teacher, but was always direct and honest, and full of wisdom and wit. Above all, Carole was loved and respected by her students, fellow teachers, and staff, and will be greatly missed by all of us here at CMS. โ›ช๏ธ ๐ŸŽน ๐Ÿค ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ˜”

Community Music School is truly a COMMUNITY of musicians! We love when our students and teachers from different area schools have the opportunity to collaborate, here at CMS and "on the field". It was a cowbell throw-down at the Palmerton Area High School vs. Notre Dame High School football game on Friday, October 18, 2024, as CMS teachers and fellow marching band directors Matthew Blanchard (Palmerton) and Chris Klump (Notre Dame), surprised the crowd with a joint performance of their bandsโ€™ โ€œHalloween Specialโ€ Pregame Show. ๐Ÿ‘ป ๐Ÿฅ ๐ŸŽบ ๐Ÿˆ ๐ŸŽถ ๐ŸŽƒ. Our Story

Community Music School (CMS) โ€“ Lehigh Valley & Berks is a non-profit charitable organization which provides the inspiration and opportunity for anyone in our diverse community to achieve excellence in music education and appreciate the transformative power of music. CMS employs over 25 professional musicians who provide high-quality private and group instruction to students of all ages and in nearly every instrument and voice, as well as extensive, tuition-free outreach programs that bring music to students in under-served, high-poverty schools. Thanks to support from our philanthropic community, CMS has provided over 25,000 student services in the Lehigh Valley with the life-long benefits of musical education by funding over $100,000 annually in financial aid, merit scholarships, and tuition-free outreach programming.

In the fall of 2018, CMS moved its Allentown operations to historic 1544 Hamilton Street, the former Lehigh Valley Club. The renovated space offers 12 lesson rooms of varying sizes, a unique parent lounge, early childhood room, music library, administrative offices, and a 150-seat recital hall. Introductory group classes, such as Kindermusik (ages 0-4), Kids Choir (ages 6-11), Modern Band (middle and high school) provide music fundamentals in a fun, group environment.
