CMS employs 25 professional teachers who provide private lessons and group classes to over 300 students of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, in piano, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, and recording technology; both in-person and online. CMS offers introductory group classes, such as Kindermusik, Kids Choir, and Modern Band that provide music fundamentals, while Big Band and House Band ensembles offer collaborative free performance opportunities for intermediate and advanced students. Thanks to support from our philanthropic community, for over 40 years, CMS has provided over 25,000 student services in the Lehigh Valley with the life-long benefits of a quality music education and free performance opportunities. Over 50% of students under age 18 receive financial assistance funded by generous donors. Located in the former Lehigh Valley Social Club at historic 1544 Hamilton Street in Allentown, CMS offers 12 lesson rooms of varying sizes, a unique parent lounge, early childhood room, music library, administrative offices, state-of-the-art recording studio, and a 150-seat recital hall. It is with great sadness that we share that longtime CMS piano teacher and accompanist, Carole Houghton, 91, of Whitehall, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Carole dedicated her life to music and to teaching. Carole joined the CMS faculty in 1995 and taught hundreds of students during her 25+ year career. She was a gentle and kind teacher, but was always direct and honest, and full of wisdom and wit. Above all, Carole was loved and respected by her students, fellow teachers, and staff, and will be greatly missed by all of us here at CMS. ⛪️ 🎹 🤍 🎶 😔

We thank all our students and their families who participated in the Monster Concert and Costume Contest this past Sunday, October 27. We had 63 performances, including our Junior Chorus and Modern Band. It was wonderful to hear so many performances and to see all the amazing costumes.

We congratulate the three winners of our costume contest: Elsia S. as “Wednesday Addams,” Elena B. as “Beetlejuice,” and Sebastian S. as “Doc Ock”. We thank our CMS board members who served as judges for the contest: Bill Moyer, Tom Fenstermacher, David Livert, and Jim Warfel; and our Recital Season Sponsor, Shari Noctor.

Community Music School is truly a COMMUNITY of musicians! We love when our students and teachers from different area schools have the opportunity to collaborate, here at CMS and "on the field". It was a cowbell throw-down at the Palmerton Area High School vs. Notre Dame High School football game on Friday, October 18, 2024, as CMS teachers and fellow marching band directors Matthew Blanchard (Palmerton) and Chris Klump (Notre Dame), surprised the crowd with a joint performance of their bands’ “Halloween Special” Pregame Show. 👻 🥁 🎺 🏈 🎶 🎃. We thank East Allen Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their generous donation to Community Music School - Lehigh Valley & Berks to fund the purchase of AEDs and first aid supplies, and to provide first responder training for CMS staff and teachers. East Allen EMS representatives Michele Morrow and Greg Kuhn presented the check at the CMS board meeting on Monday, September 24. Your gift is much appreciated!

Art in the Park celebrates the work of artists from Lehigh Valley and beyond in Allentown’s oldest park. This year’s event features a record-breaking 130 artist exhibitors, 18 arts-related community groups, and 10 musical performances.

Our Mallet Mania campers wrapped up our 2024 summer camp season with a lively finale performance this afternoon. Along with several songs, they also created musical sound effects for a story as Marissa Amphay read the book aloud. It was a hit! 🥁🎶 📖

We just wrapped up a fun week of learning PIANO 🎹 at CMS! Congratulations to all our new pianists! 🎶

On Friday, June 21, we wrapped up a busy week of art, music, dance, and theater with the City Arts Camp showcase performance at Miller Symphony Hall. This year’s theme was 🌈 “Colors of the World”. We send a special thank you to CMS teachers Chris Klump, who taught ukulele, and Elaine Martin, who taught Flutophone. 🎨 City Arts Camp is a 25+ year collaboration of the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown Symphony Orchestra El Sistema Lehigh Valley, The Baum School of Art, Civic Theatre of Allentown , @CCommunity Music School - Lehigh Valley & Berks , and Repertory Ballet Academy Repertory Dance Theatre. 👏 We thank the Harry C.
