Fenimore & Rutland

Fenimore & Rutland Hello! My name is Marly and welcome to Fenimore & Rutland. I am floral farmer-designer I see His hands in creation and my heart is grateful. WHY BUY LOCAL?
(3)

I get to grow flowers which allow me to praise my Creator in the most fantastic way. I enjoy taking photos of flowers and creating arrangements to celebrate life. Already an avid gardener (think English Cottage florals + a smidgen too many peonies!) and floral photographer for 10 years, I wanted to expand my skills to floral farming. It's very hard work, but the community is supportive and is wort

h the amazing rewards. WHERE I GROW FLOWERS

If you've never heard of a micro-floral farm, we are IT. Growing beautiful blooms on less than 1800 sq ft. requires lessons in patience, time management, and spacing! At this time, due to limited size, I grow only for wholesale, designers, and DIY brides. Here a few reasons:

You'll help reduce mass cut flowers imported from overseas
You'll be educated. Some flowers do not transport well (sunflowers, zinnia, lisianthus, dahlia, ageratum, and peonies)
You'll support local farmers in the Lehigh Valley
You’ll help the local bees and habitats
You'll support a local, women-owned business

We are small, but mighty in spirit. Thank you for following our journey!

Lesson: Make pretty things just for you. I had insomnia so might as well be creative and make arrangements, right?

Sophia made her first bouquet. She even stopped me from putting an extra burgandy dahlia because she felt it was 'throwing the color off'. Um ok miss.

This was a Doordash order; the 'Sophia' bouquet. When it's ordered, she makes it and profits go to her.

Isn't she gorgeous?

She was created using AI Art app. I wanted to see if the app could create a wedding bouquet from a prompt.

Here is my prompt:

photography, Highly detailed, Natural lighting, medium dark skin in a white wedding dress. the bride is holding a bouquet in her hand. the bouquet is round and loose in shape with a trailing ribbon. the bouquet includes cream roses, toffee colored roses, cafe au lait Dahlia, ranunculus and eucalyptus. include other flowers in the apricot and light peach.

Well, you can see what it got right and what it definitely got wrong. But it's not Midjourney so I wasn't expecting much. And I know prompt engineering is a thing and mine could be better.

My thoughts are that you could train AI based on your own work and style and it could spit out mockups for future customers. Sounds cool to me.

Now, I hope no one is asking for this from floral designers. I was just curious about the intersection of AI and floral design and how it could help the designer. I'll keep y'all posted while I dig deeper.

What are your thoughts?

I had the opportunity to do a few tables for the 2024 Charity Ball to support their children's hospital. This year's theme was Wish Upon A Star and designers were asked to use children's toys in the design. For my table designs, I repurposed toy trucks to hold florals. Each table had a similar truck with a woodland floral theme. I also used tiny vehicles for the wall shelves, because how cute!

Thank you to and
for fostering so much creativity year after year and supporting a great cause!

I'm so grateful to be connected to the flower farming community. This is very hard work. It's part science, part creativity, and occasionally pure bewilderment. But most of all we enjoy sending our labor of love out into the world. Our work ends up in your hands for self care, your homes, your weddings and other special events, your businesses and commercial events, your schools and your care facilities.

Have you seen the May issue of ? They are showcasing 10 flower farmers in the region. Thank you Amy Unger for the write up, for approving my pitch to showcase this community and for taking beautiful and fun photos!

We are so blessed to have farmers in the Lehigh, Northampton and Bucks counties. We serve our communities in various ways through flower subscriptions, farmers markets, retail and wholesale markets.

Of course our region has more than the 10 farmers listed. Would you like to learn more about them personally? Stay tuned in the next few months for more info.

Meanwhile, please reach out to the farmers listed below for your floral (and greenery!) needs. As always, thank you for supporting local flowers!

Spring is my favorite season for flowers. Looking forward to the tulips, peonies, ranunculus. This year, I'm also growing foxglove, hollyhocks, cerenthe, stock and lots more. My goal is to be a source of the romantic spring flowers. Because y'all can have the brain melting summer. Agree?
