The Alma College Choirs This page is for past/present members of the Alma Choirs and for high school singers who are interested in the choral program at Alma College.

Alma has three choral ensembles - Alma Choir, Alma Acapella, & Chorale - directed by Dr. Nicole Mattfeld. The Alma College Choirs:
Glee Club (25 voices - SSA)
College Chorale (75 voices - SATB)
The Alma Choir (50 voices - SSAATTBB)

In just ONE WEEK, Alma Choir will embark on their Michigan Choir Tour - we would love to have you join us in one of these cities! Concerts are free & feature many collaborations with high school and church choirs! Also, we look forward to any alumni in the audience joining us on Loch Lomond!

If you can't make it to tour, we also have a concert - "Love Embodied" - this Thursday, February 20 at 7pm in the Alma College Heritage Center.

Join us for the first ever Singing Scots Festival on Monday, March 17th! This is open to ALL high school singers & FREE!

Experience the vibrant energy of Alma College’s choral community! Students will engage with the college’s talented choirs, including the Alma Choir and Alma Acapella, and work with Dr. Nicole Mattfeld as part of the Singing Scots Festival Choir. All music will be provided & learned the day of the event. Whether you’re interested in auditioning for a choir, learning more about music programs, or simply enjoying incredible performances, this event provides an immersive experience into the heart of Alma’s music and campus life.

The 5pm concert is free and open to the public.

It would be wonderful to see many alumni on our Winter Choir Tour throughout Michigan!

We hope you can join the Alma College Choir on their Winter Tour throughout Michigan! The choirs are collaborating with several high schools and church choirs at many of the concerts, in addition to doing school visits during the day. All concerts are free & open to the public - any donations to continue creating meaningful musical experiences are always welcome!

Hello all! I am excited to introduce myself - Nicole Mattfeld - as the new Director of Choirs at Alma College! I so respect and admire the legacy and tradition of excellent choral singing and sense of community that has existed in Alma Choirs under Dr. Nichols for the past 40 years. I wanted to ease some minds that many of his traditions will be kept intact, including the Alumni Choir at Homecoming, the international tours to Scotland, and of course the beloved Loch Lomond.

I have included the 2024-25 season poster below and hope to meet you in person at some of our concerts this year! I especially hope you can join us for Homecoming on Saturday, September 28th. Alumni Choir is rehearsing that evening from 5pm-6pm with the concert at 7pm. It is quite a special concert as Senator Gary Peters is receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award - that being said, it will likely sell out so purchase your tickets now! I wish the The Alma College Choirs and their new conductor, Prof. Nikki Mattfeld, a great first day together and a fabulous year. Pam and I will be cheering for you!

August means a new year at Alma College approaches. This will be our final entry on this page as administrators. Will turns over the leadership of the Choirs and I end my time as #1 Fan, Choir Mom, and chronicler of birthdays and memories. It has been our pleasure to know you and your families and to sing and travel with you. We will continue to be interested in you and your lives going forward. Please stay in touch and we look forward to when next we meet! We are glad you all were born! Thanks for the memories! xoxo

Happy birthday to The Alma College Choirs alum Blake Jonassen. We are glad you were born and wish you happy days ahead. Here is a fun memory from late February 2020 before we all had to stay home for awhile.

Hello to All! We got this wonderful message this morning and I want to share it with you: Hello I just wanted to thank you for your beautiful concert on Iona Scotland in the abbey. I was there with my family to scatter my father's ashes and we heard you singing. We sat and listened and it felt so perfect because some of your song choices were my father's favourites. After the concert we scattered his ashes and it was a perfect day. The timing of your concert and our arrival to scatter ashes in my father's favourite place, was amazing and I feel it was meant to be. I’d seen some of the choir in Inveraray a couple of days earlier and couldn’t believe we got to hear them when we eventually went over to Iona. The sun was shining and your choir was so professional and angelic. They also represented the college well as their attitude when chatting to people after the concert was very commendable and friendly. I have a small video of your singing so if your would like a copy let me know and we can work out how to share it. Thank you and take care. Ruth Will and I are so proud of every member of the Scotland 2023 Choir and are delighted that your singing and enthusiasm crosses the seas! xoxo
