Hippie update- customers please read and share
This will likely come as a surprise to alot of our customers, but it’s something that has weighed on me over the last week and it needs to be done. We will be open at the Hippie Dome location Friday until 7pm today, and Saturday from 11am-3pm. After that this location will close permanently and we will move back to Ripley for the rest of the summer. That location will become our permanent year round location at that point. The Hippie Dome location will likely be leased to another operator or sold at some point in the future.
I am aware that the timing of this seems wild with us just having moved over to the dome for the summer…and it is. My intention was to do one last summer there, but after a week in I realized I just didn’t have it in me to grind out another season. I feel great, but am completely mentally exhausted continuing to do this. Last summer was very rough on myself and Chef Ben due to the logistics of running this location. The amount of work needed to run a satellite location is just more work than it is worth. We do all of the prep at Ripley, then lug it down to the dome every day. Along with this, it’s hauling ice, washing rags at Ripley, and a host of other fairly major things to do to make this work.
Along with the additional amount of work, it actually does not make any financial sense other than the week of the 4th of July. We are primarily a take out and delivery business, which our Ripley location is built to do very efficiently. Having bought this location first, I always went back there for the summer. Now that we have a great year round location, it no longer makes sense to do it this way. I could go on and on about how much of a challenge it is to run this during the summer, but I will spare you additional details.
My intention is to reopen Ripley on Monday, June 17th. We will go back to taking call in orders, and everything will be as it was prior to the dome opening last week. We will be adding additional outdoor seating and work on getting music outdoors as well.
I apologize for the double switch of locations. Please share this so everyone can see this to avoid confusion as to where to go for pick up orders starting next week.
