Uncle Billy’s Day started in 1949 as a one-day event to commemorate the founding of the Trade Lot where local residents brought their vegetables and livestock to sell. Uncle Billy Lane, member of the Lane family, founders of the town of Altavista, was steadfast in bringing his goods in a wagon to sell at the Trade Lot and it was named after him for his dedication. The Trade Lot continues to operat

e the first Saturday of each month as a giant flea market. The first weekend in June was established to celebrate the Trade Lot and over the years it has grown into a two-day festival including the Trade Lot and also:

Craft Show
Food Vendors
Flea Market
Live Music Performances
Car Show
Children’s Activities
Amazing Fire Works on Saturday

In 2011, we will celebrate 62 years of the Uncle Billy’s Festival which will be sponsored by the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Altavista. We are expecting this year’s celebration to be outstanding…come and enjoy it with us! The Trade Lot (flea market) will be located in the War Memorial Park on 7th Street and the rest of the festival will be held in English Park located along the Staunton River. Both parks are located in downtown Altavista. Please see schedule of events page for details.

The Altavista Chamber is sad to announce the cancellation of Uncle Billy's Day for 2021.

It is with a heavy heart we announce Uncle Billy’s Day, scheduled for June 4-5, has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

The Chamber of Commerce begins preparations for the Festival a year in advance and with the current health climate, we are unable to do that while adhering to current health and safety regulations.

This was not an easy decision to make, especially given the 70+ year longevity of this cherished community tradition. However, safety is our top priority, and canceling the event was the safest decision, both for our community and for those who travel to Altavista to attend the annual festival.

Keep an eye out for the full press release from the Altavista Journal. In the meantime, please stay tuned to our website and Facebook/Instagram pages for announcements on other events that we hope to hold throughout the year safely and within existing guidelines.

We wish our friends, family, and the Altavista community continued good health and safety. We're in this together!
